Deans of Admission / Admission staff on TLS
Not sure if anyone has ever made a thread/publicly discussed this here, but how frequently do you think someone from the admissions department privately monitors TLS? After some thought, it occurred to me that it would not be too difficult to identify certain posters based on their profiles (stated gpa, lsat score, location, etc.), especially if I had a database of applicants.
That being said, do you think some of the comments made in various threads by posters about specific schools may influence how a candidate is reviewed?
Just saying...

I would think/hope that they have better things to do.droctii wrote:Not sure if anyone has ever made a thread/publicly discussed this here, but how frequently do you think someone from the admissions department privately monitors TLS? I am pretty darn sure that at least some adcomms do monitor TLS.moxy wrote:I would think/hope that they have better things to do.droctii wrote:Not sure if anyone has ever made a thread/publicly discussed this here, but how frequently do you think someone from the admissions department privately monitors TLS? Recently in the Fordham thread someone pointed out a typo in their decision listing on the status checker and 15 minutes later it was changed. Not conclusive, I know, but interesting. Quite honestly, I would be very surprised if most adcomms didn't have a member or two that checks TLS at least occasionally, if for no other reason than to see what people are saying about their school.
ETA: also, I think I remember reading on the TLS interview with Fordham's dean that he said people should be "a class act on TLS" or something like that, suggesting that it could be seen...

Some adcomms even have accounts on TLS and post occassionally. A good rule of thumb is "if you have to think about saying/posting something before you do, it's probably best not to."

I know for a fact the Dean of Emory is on TLS as he post updates occasionally and I would bet that other schools are on here as well

Nice guy .. his posts are informative. I think the OP is curious about any 'private' monitoring which happens behind the scenes .. and if such monitoring affects admission outcomes.mcdeeremitch wrote:I know for a fact the Dean of Emory is on TLS as he post updates occasionally and I would bet that other schools are on here as well

Dean Shively of Wake Forest - He posts weekly. Keeps you updated on the admissions process and responds to comments in the thread.

Yes he is a nice guy..but I gotcha...in regards to private monitoring I'm sure schools are not spending their nights and weekends stalking the threads but I wouild imagine that they sometimes browse...I think that as long as you don't come off as a complete and total idiot you should be finemoxy wrote:Nice guy .. his posts are informative. kinda off topic, but when we signed up for this site did they reserve the right to sell our email addresses and corresponding information (to law schools)?

I agree with what you all have been saying. Most comments around here tend to be respectful, insight or well-intentioned, which is a good thing. I've always been cautious about electronic/digital (whatever you call it) footprints (I'm not a big FB user, etc.).
If I were a dean of admission, I'd spend an hour or so (maybe on the weekend) looking on threads about my school on forums like this to get a feel of the general sentiment toward the school (discounted accordingly for the self selecting, limited sample size), for a glimpse into the "real" thoughts of potential candidates (what kind of expectations, misconceptions, issues might be on the horizon from incoming students), and to find out about any scholarship negotiation tactics that candidates may be trying to use "this year."
But, that's me...

I suppose TLS could do this, but given that it goes completely against the purpose of this website, don't worry about it.mrjohnsterman wrote:kinda off topic, but when we signed up for this site did they reserve the right to sell our email addresses and corresponding information (to law schools)?

Texas Tech's Dean of Admissions has also answered some questions on the forums, so he's at least been around.
