Re: In at Chicago: Class of 2015
It sounds to me like our awards are both merit and need-based (from the Feb 8 reminder email: "Please note that we do not differentiate awards into merit- and need-based."). So I'm guessing that explains some of the variance here. I wasn't able to fill out the Need Access by Feb 15 - I think my award would've been a lot higher if I had.

Possibly explains why I was offered WAY more money than I thought I would.sailboat wrote:It sounds to me like our awards are both merit and need-based (from the Feb 8 reminder email: "Please note that we do not differentiate awards into merit- and need-based."). I'm a bit late to the game but checking in with 90k. Surprised and thrilled. Chicago's looking like my likely destination, unless anything wild happens at HLS/SLS.

I gotta say, the Chicago students I've been in email and phone contact with have been on top of their shit a million times more than the Columbia and NYU students I've talked to and emailed with. Props to Chicago for handling that better.

Is it generally an accepted fact that Chicago gives out much more in unnamed grants than Columbia? I'm deciding between the two and haven't received my financial aid package from either yet, but I think that's definitely going to be a factor.

Have any of you visited the school yet? And if so, what was your take on the general level of student happiness? I hear that UChi is sometimes know for being an unfriendly place? Do y'all think it's true?

Definitely not what experienced at all. Really friendly students. All I talked to were really passionate about the school, more so than other t14s I visited.Dino_Spumoni wrote:Have any of you visited the school yet? So are they not bothering with transcripts anymore? I've been interested in reading the last one, and now this one isn't up either.

Good point. I asked a question, then didn't get to see the answer because the SO called all weepy. Would really like to see what was said.vincanity1 wrote:So are they not bothering with transcripts anymore? I've been interested in reading the last one, and now this one isn't up either.
ETA: Sent an email. Hope the transcript gets posted.

Thanks for your response. It's nice to hear. I wonder why they get such a bad rap on that subject.TemporarySaint wrote:Definitely not what experienced at all. Really friendly students. Yeah, dude no worries. Any other questions you have that I can I answer with my probably unrepresentative 3 days of visiting Hyde Park go ahead.Dino_Spumoni wrote:Thanks for your response. Was accepted today so I'm just checking in. Honored to be in and really excited to visit Chicago in a few weeks.
I realize nobody has been admitted in the past few weeks, but what was the time table like for February admits in terms of hearing about financial aid?

Congrats on getting in. They posted on the twitter feed late last week that Feb admits should be hearing about financial aid by the end of this week.StrictlyBusiness wrote:Was accepted today so I'm just checking in. Honored to be in and really excited to visit Chicago in a few weeks.

Accepted today via email after a few months of silence. This complicates things since I've been getting used to the idea of attending NYU for a while now. Any guesses on when I could hear about aid?

Does anyone know whether we can withdraw online somehow? I can't seem to find a paper form in the stuff they sent.

There's a commitment response form on the admitted students site - the link's on the side menu.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
