"Dean's Tuition Grants are awarded with the understanding that there is a moral obligation for the student to repay the funds received. By accepting the grant award, the student accepts his/her moral responsibility to contribute to Georgetown Law when financially able to do so. The fulfillment of this moral obligation will help to replenish the grant fund and ensures that Georgetown Law will be able to offer institutional aid to future students."

If I attend GULC and get a good job afterwards, they can rest assured I will pay back the 7.5k they gave me in grants, lol.

From http://www.law.georgetown.edu/finaid/ai ... index.html:

"Awards are generally renewable at the same level for up to 2 additional years of full-time study at Georgetown Law (1 additional year for transfer students). Changes significantly affecting the financial situation of the student, student's spouse and/or student's parent(s) may affect the level or availability of grant assistance in future years. In addition, students earning significant pay through summer employment (e.g., working as law firm summer associates) are expected to use a portion of their earnings for their education and, accordingly, are likely to have their grant assistance reduced for the following year."

So I finally got an answer out of them today. They are still reviewing my app for a scholarship. I was accepted in Nov and in the first wave of scholarship notification emails. I guess they aren't done making offers yet...

So much for trying to extend the April 1st scholarship acceptance deadline to a more convenient date...they were a little accommodating, but not very.

Too bad. I was looking forward to having a chance to really see Gtown and sit in on a class. Since their March ASW conflicts with UMich, I can't do that until after the deadline. Unless I hate Duke, it looks like one of the alternates will be getting my scholarship.

The alternate group is EXTREMELY small...given how many people apply to GULC. PM me if you want more details...

EDIT: Am I misunderstanding? I haven't received any emails about merit scholarship consideration. Does everyone get this Dean's Tuition Grant?
I didn't. Since it is a grant, I think it is needs based...not merit
Well although I suppose it's possible that different peoples' Dean's Tuition Grants mean different things, I'll just say that I received one which, when combined with my Law Dean's Scholars grant is the total amount of the scholarship I was originally presented with. (So [in case that was confusing] my DTG + LDS = the total scholarship offer I received a couple weeks ago).

Also, to those of you who got need-based grants and no scholarship stuff, just know that in the scholarship email they tell us that if you were offered say, 15k/yr in scholarships and then qualified for need-based of 20k/yr, you would then get 20k/yr in "scholarship". So although that does not necessarily mean that they never combine the two (to give you 35k/yr), I think the assumption should be made that whichever award is greater is the amount you'll receive: not a combination of the two. Just thought I'd offer that

I can't take off from work to go to the ASW events, but I'll be going to the reception on Wednesday evening.

Question for folks who might know:

I never received an email from G-town saying that I'm being considered for merit scholarships. Does this mean I'm not likely to get one, or is that not necessarily the case?

And, if that is the case, should I tell them about my scholarship offers from other comparable/better schools to see if that'll change anything?

I never received that email, either. But I sent them an unsolicited email letting them know I'd been accepted to some higher-ranked schools, and they sent me a merit scholarship offer the next week. Do it! Even if you don't get anything, it certainly can't hurt to try.

Come to think of it, I think gtown placed me as an alternate as a result of my response email. I basically told them I had to hear from many schools... I think that made them realize I wouldn't be in the position to answer by the deadline? Hopefully! Id love some merit aid

My only real leverage is a hefty WUSTL scholarship. Should I bother sending an email? If so, to whom?

Again, I don't think it can hurt. I sent my email the address that "Andy Cornblatt" uses to send us updates.

Late to the draw here, but I'm filling out my yellow form. In the section where I have to report amounts in savings/checking it keeps saying the figure I entered is not a valid dollar amount. I've tried a ton of different ways, but can't get it work - any thoughts?

I'll only be there for one night, so I bit the bullet and got a (very expensive) hotel room

Capitol Hill Suites is on the other side of the capitol right behind all the congressional office buildings (the school is about five blocks away on the other side) and was $90 a night during the first ASW. It was really nice, too! It isn't a bad walk at all.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
