School Applicaiton Process and RACE, etc.
I'd like to know what you guys think about this:
Should race, ethnicity, sex, LGBT status, or any other identifier such as these be completely excluded from the law school application process? Please explain your answer.
I feel that it should be excluded and it should be the best man or woman for the job. If that means that the entering class of any given school happens to be 80% Egyptian and 99% female, then that' awesome. I want the absolute best of the best fighting for what's right.

Blessedassurance, I am sorry if I offended you in any way. I actually am a part of an underrepresented part of society. I also believe that I should not be chosen for law school above someone with higher qualifications. If you were my future client, it would not be fair to you. You would need the best representation possible from one of the most qualified individuals. If you got sentenced to life, you would not be concerned that I was part of an underrepresented part of the community.Blessedassurance wrote:It will behoove you to go piss up a rope.

Why would you think you insulted me?FutureEsquire wrote:Blessedassurance, I am sorry if I insulted you in any way.

I didn't know being an idiot was an underrepresented group. P.T. Barnum begs to differ.

Well, seeing as I stumbled upon this thread in the 30 seconds before it inevitably gets locked, here's my .02
I'd like to see completely color blind admissions, but that's not likely to ever happen, so as a white guy, I just need to study that much harder, so I do, and I don't worry about it and I don't vent my frustrations by starting threads that are sure only to incite rage (justified or not).

I appreciate your intelligent post. What do you mean by, "I just need to study that much harder"? Do you have to actually work harder because you do not identify with an underrepresented group? I am new to the board and application process and truly would like to know. Thanks.willwash wrote:Well, seeing as I stumbled upon this thread in the 30 seconds before it inevitably gets locked, here's my .02

Re: School Applicaiton Process and RACE, etc.
Well, the real numbers are harder to get than classified military intelligence, but the fact of the matter is that the median LSATs and GPAs you see are not the same for URMs vs non URMs. Non URM medians are somewhat higher (how much higher is virtually impossible to determine). So if you are a non-URM and score exactly at the medians for both GPA and LSAT, and your softs are no better than average, you probably have slightly less than 50% chance of admission.
I have NO COMMENT on the moral justification of this. It is, however, a statistical fact that you should take into account.
