Creighton 2012
Anyone else applied here? I just got accepted with a $16,000k per year scholarship. Pretty excited. Numbers are 3.6/154.

Re: Creighton 2012
This should not excite you. Creighton costs like $50k+ a year and you likely won't have a job when you graduate.

Re: Creighton 2012
50K is an exaggeration... unless you're factoring in COL too. Tuition should be under $20k with this scholarship. Not my number one choice, but much better than I expected with my numbers.
Thanks for the snide remark though.

The numbers aren't accurate, but the sentiment should be strongly considered. There are not a great deal of circumstances under which people should attend third tier schools. The debt OP would incur from the school is too much, even if (s)he has a job waiting at graduation. These schools should not be attended lightlyMrKappus wrote:This should not excite you. Actually, they are. Annual tuition's $31k; living allowance is estimated at $14k; health insurance $2k; books $1k; university fees $1k; etc. etc.JamMasterJ wrote:The numbers aren't accurate, but the sentiment should be strongly considered. Not snide, factual. The amount of work required to break 165+ and go to Nebraska on scholarship is minuscule compared to the amount of work required to do well enough at Creighton to get a good job.ineptimusprime wrote:50K is an exaggeration... unless you're factoring in COL too. Since the trolling rules are already out the window on this thread, do either MrKappus or JamMasterJ Live/Practice in Omaha?MrKappus wrote:Not snide, factual. Re: Creighton 2012
Even if the above is true, that sort of discussion isn't what this forum is for:
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=146613
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=146613
This forum is called "Law School Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists". It is clearly for people who wish to discuss acceptances, denials, and waitlists.
Discussion between applicants is fine, but this forum is NOT the place to argue or debate which law schools are worth attending and under what circumstances.
Starting or perpetuating arguments here about whether a school is worth attending may be deemed trolling and get you banned.

Not casting aspersions - just curious if you have some special knowledge of the Omaha law marketJamMasterJ wrote:You think me telling you to be careful paying money to attend a TTT is trollingFlappy Scribbleneck wrote:Since the trolling rules are already out the window on this thread, do either MrKappus or JamMasterJ Live/Practice in Omaha?MrKappus wrote:Not snide, factual. honestly, Creighton's employment prospects are tough to judge at all. They don't have reported salaries for over 54% of the classFlappy Scribbleneck wrote:Not casting aspersions - just curious if you have some special knowledge of the Omaha law marketJamMasterJ wrote:You think me telling you to be careful paying money to attend a TTT is trollingFlappy Scribbleneck wrote:Since the trolling rules are already out the window on this thread, do either MrKappus or JamMasterJ Live/Practice in Omaha?MrKappus wrote: Not snide, factual. So I got my acceptance letter in the mail today, but there was no scholarship offer. Does anyone know if scholarship offers come later or with the acceptance letter? No way am I spending three million dollars when my LSAT is above the top quartile.

Re: Creighton 2012
I think typically they come together. In my folder the acceptance letter was on the right hand side, the scholarship on the left side.
Initially, I didn't get anything from them either last cycle, but I was able to negotiate for $4k just by sending a few e-mails. I bet if you wait until you have more acceptances you could negotiate with them to get more money... that is, if you want to go to Creighton.
Good luck at UNL!

I got a waiver and applied. Got admitted the other day via status checker. Anyone have insight into the Omaha legal market? I honestly have no idea.

Same. Jesuit high school and undergrad for me. I'm leaning Loyola New Orleans, but I couldn't not apply to Creighton b/c of the waiver.LWOP wrote:got a waiver and applied. Interested in Jesuit law schools. My Undergrad is USF.... not high on the list tho

I'm from Omaha and am currently working in the legal community. I can't really comment on the job market in general, but I know that Creighton has a really high reputation in Omaha. Absurdly high actually. It's really weird.2LT_CPG wrote:I got a waiver and applied. Got admitted the other day via status checker. Anyone have insight into the Omaha legal market? I had a conversation with my boss who is considered one of the top attorneys in Omaha and he was shocked when I told him I was considering other higher ranked schools. Why would I go to those schools when I could go to Creighton?
I think it is related to the fact that very few people come to the area from other schools apart from UNL and the occasional Iowa grad, but it is shocking how much respect Creighton gets for what most people would not consider to be top school.
That being said, it's not a huge market and salaries are not real high here.

Acceptance packet came today. Had a nice personalized and handwritten note from an adcomm member. No scholarship offer though. So barring some good financial aid, I don't think Creighton's for me.

Re: Creighton 2012
A relative went to Creighton for law. He loved it, and is doing very well for himself in another market. That being said, he graduated like 30 years ago and does criminal defense. I would think that the Omaha market would be pretty insular, because...well, it's Omaha. It wouldn't surprise me if grads do well in that city. Through my relative, I heard that the school is cutting incoming class sizes, and so they are hitting up alumni for more money in order to mitigate the losses in revenue by having smaller incoming classes. They called it "an ethical imperative" or something like that. I applaud their efforts in trying to lessen their footprint on an oversaturated economy. But I would advise against going to this school, or almost any school, without serious scholarship money.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
