Sweet tshirt, but NY life nor 'Cuse's ridiculous scholarship maintenance situation are for me. Full tuition is only nice if it is likely to happen all three years. I'm staying down south.

Does anyone know when the ASW's are? And when the first seat deposit is due? My acceptance packet came in the mail but I can't get it from the school post office until my spring break is over.

There are 4 accepted student days each being on consecutive Fridays.
I don't know all of the dates, but one is March 23, 2012.

Is anyone here eyeing the National Security Program? Does anyone know what the job prospects are coming out of 'Cuse with the NS certificate?

True. You can say that about 80% of the law schools in the us.Mr Cooper wrote:FTFY. Most of the law schools have better bar passage rates than SU because most law schools accept brighter students than SU. There are 15 law schools in New York (aka the most over-saturated legal market in the country). Of those 15 at least 8 are better options than Syracuse in terms of legal employment and debt-to-salary ratio.paradox wrote:alba0321
Thanks for your considered reply.
In my opinionSyracuse's Law School's grading curve is unfair because it causes a set number of students to do poorly because of a programed formula which has no relationship to the quality of their work.
Unfortunately the programed grades will cause many bright students to lose their scholarships upon which they based their selection of the school and also cause some students who have borrowed considerable money to attend to become academic casualties.
The Dean of Syracuse University College of Law should question why most of the law schools have better bar pass rates than SU but less generous grading policies.
You need to understand why law schools give out scholarships that hard to maintain. It is how they "buy" LSAT scores to improve their rankings. The higher the ranking, the more justification they have to raise tuition. Many law schools are merely "cash cows" for the university.
Like I pointed out earlier in this thread, I know several people who attend SU law school so hear me out on this. Syracuse is financial suicide for many of its students. More than half of its incoming class maxed out their student loans for this year (thats a total of 60k for one year of law school). This was stated by the financial aid department during a lifestyle budget management assembly during orientation. With subsidized graduate loans being eliminated at the end of this school year and the interest rates being so high for graduate students, and interest accumulating during the school year, that is at least $65k for one year of law school. Now consider that SU gives out minimal amounts of grant money, and many students are losing their scholarships (particularly due to the tighter curve), you have most SU law students paying at least $40k/year. The SU career services department has also been known to be completely useless after you have graduated.
I hate to come off as an SU hater, because I have nothing against SU in particular, but I do know some students there and have been curious about various aspects of law school (particularly financial aid) during my cycle, and from what I have come to understand is that like MANY of the law schools out there, SU is not a good decision for most.
I commend you for warning 0Ls but 90-95% of them wouldn't listen. Most law students don't realize how terrible the law market is until they are a 3L. By then it will be too late.

Perhaps you need to mind your own business and not take it upon yourself to provide unsolicited negativity to students who may actually want to go to Syracuse and/or any other law school for that matter. Hope you have a nice day but seriously. Insulting the intelligence of others doesn't make you any smarter.

West lot is less than a block from the law school. But 2Ls and 3Ls can get permits for the Irving garage.disconnected wrote:Parking: Are we stuck to walk from the West Campus lot?

The new US News & World Report law school rankings rank Syracuse University College of Law at #96. Disappointing.

I just wrote a LOCI for Stetson, rank 119. But then again, Florida is better than New York any day.

Just got my admit packet today. They take so long for a decision that I didn't even do the financial aid because i was lazy and thought i got rejected. Now i'm a month behind on the FA deadline. Tuition is killer hoping for a scholarship or Hofstra accepts me off their waitlist. Anyone else going to Syracuse for sure though?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
