That's a good thing. Did you see my housing recommendations? I did! Thank you so much. Those places look AWESOME and I really appreciate you helping me out. I bookmarked the links you sent me for future reference (I might spend my spring break in DSM looking for apartments and such :3).Opie wrote:That's a good thing. This is very true. I may not end up with another big boy job. I might be able to survive off of odd jobs and unemployment for the next 7 months.vpintz wrote:Truth! Anyone think I need to disclose this to schools?

I feel like you should be fine...a lot of people probably quit/get laid off/fired a few months before 1L, and schools probably expect that.Opie wrote:This is very true. I'd quit, but I might consider coming back later in law school or during 1L summer if I don't get anything full time.vpintz wrote:Oooh, awesome! I just asked about it in the LSAT prep forum. Prepare for people to tear into Kaplan. They're not well-liked here.neeko wrote:That sounds like an interesting jobOpie wrote:That's what I was thinking. Sorry to hear that Opie! That sucks.
And TLS does seem to hate Kaplan. I took a class with them, however, and I liked them a lot.

I think it's because TLS is fairly elitist and thinks that if you got less than a 170 you definitely shouldn't go to law school and should probably kill yourself. I have no doubt that I could get a 170 if I were a traditional college student and could devote serious time to prepping. I took like 7 prep tests and spent maybe 15-20 hours studying and got a 164. I don't think that's terrible.shredderrrrrr wrote:Sorry to hear that Opie! That sucks.

Re: Drake c/o 2015 applicants
I agree. I was stoked with my 162, let alone when I bumped it up to a 166 (considering I started prepping at 154). I don't know if I could've done much better though. I worked my butt off.Opie wrote:I think it's because TLS is fairly elitist and thinks that if you got less than a 170 you definitely shouldn't go to law school and should probably kill yourself. If you want a biglaw job in NYC, TLS gives some great advice. But for people like us who want to go to a local school and work in Iowa, we don't need those superior scores.
Still, isn't 164 90th-ish percentile? Haha you know there are disillusioned people when they consider a score better than 90% of test-takers sub-standard.

Re: Drake c/o 2015 applicants
Yeah, it's 90th. Out of a sample of people who tend to be above average anyway. Maybe after teaching prep classes I'll retake for the hell of it and see what I can do with more training and no pressure.shredderrrrrr wrote:I agree. THAT would be nice. I am a classic worrier. I nearly vomited the night before the test I was so nervous. On the second test, I stumbled through LG in the second section, the part I always got -0, and I couldn't help but focus on that the rest of the test...even when I was supposed to be comprehending my reading.Yeah, it's 90th. I didn't think so. I still have pending apps though, so I wasn't sure. Hopefully I find something low stress that will pay the bills until August.DocHawkeye wrote: I don't see any reason why you would.

You know, I was looking at LSN today, and I started to think maybe it would be next week. Last year there were no mid January decisions. LSN is a pretty small sample for Drake though, but the year before the decisions were around the 21st, which would mean probably next Monday. Ugh.. I just want my damn scholarship.shredderrrrrr wrote:I've got a feeling Opie. It's gonna be this week.

Also, I had to laugh about 10th Street Lofts. Get this (if you're bored and have nothing better to do).
I was recommended to check them out by a different place in Des Moines that I wouldn't qualify for (low income). I went online and found the site called apartmentratings.com. I instantly knew I wouldn't bother looking into them any further.
"Like we give a s##t. We're at nearly full capacity anyway, and we don't need some jerkoff like you here to begin with. If I found out who you are, I'd tell you "no vacancy." Sunny" (the manager)

- The earliest few reviews were all pretty negative with a response from the property saying they had hired completely new management.
There were then 5 reviews posted within 24 hours (all with identical syntax) going on about how amazing the place is. They were obviously called out for being phony, and "anonymous" posters responded to all 5 replies claiming to be tennants.
A new review was posted pointing out the fake reviews with a response from "anonymous" denying it.
5 more obviously fake reviews (sounding identical and only complimentary without any negatives) posted over the next few months.
Another review citing examples of how terrible the manager is. 2 "anonymous" responses defending the manager saying, "If I was the manager, I would've done the same!"
A new positive review complimenting the place and criticizing the negative reviewers.
Another negative review with a snarky response from an "anonymous" tennant.
