Nice!!! Are you excited? I'm pretty stoked, not gonna lie. I'm actually having my mother and father come with me, they have some friends in Sacramento and I want them to get at least a little bit of an idea of what I'll be a part of for the next 3 years. I think the part of the program where we can sit in on an actual class will be more informational for them than anything else.tolson1 wrote:SplitLife wrote:I'll be going April 20th

I would like to get this thread more active, like the classes of the past have done.
Something I'd like to see some discussion about is the fact that Dean Parker is stepping down at the end of this academic year.
Does that make any of you nervous?

Haven't got my packet yet, but my status page says decision rendered. It does not list any seat deposits due.
However, I got an email inviting me to the Legal Scholars days.
Anyone else have this weird stuff?

i HIGHLY doubt you got rejected if you were invited to legal scholar's day. It seems to be only for accepted students who meet a certain scholarship criteria, so you also probably got $$$. For reference, my packet took about 4 or 5 days to arrive, and i live in los angeles. btw, my seat deposits still dont show, and i was accepted.

Awesome! Thanks for the insight. I live on the east coast, so it will probably take even longer to get here for me.kokorozukai wrote:i HIGHLY doubt you got rejected if you were invited to legal scholar's day. It took 6 days for my packet to arrive and I live on the east coast. Are you considering going to a legal scholars day? I'd like to attend, but it's so far away and will be expensive even with the $500 travel stipend.kakaa001 wrote:Awesome! Thanks for the insight. No. I don't have enough vacation time at work to take off for legal scholars day since I am already headed to California tomorrow to visit schools for the week.

Also, what do you mean by: "no one lives on campus except for FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS" and "there is NO DIVERSITY?"
Does the most dangerous park across the street/worst neighborhood in the city have anything to do with students who do live on campus?
I am concerned about all of this stuff but I would like you to qualify the basis of all of your claims.
Hope to hear back from you soon!

McGeorge 3L here. I have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, McGeorge is expensive. Law school is expensive; that's not news.balenciaga23 wrote: MAJOR ISSUES WITH MC GEORGE:

MAJOR ISSUES WITH MC GEORGE:
- YOU ARE IN THE WORST NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE CITY
The west side of Oak Park is not the worst neighborhood in Sacramento. Additionally, compared to most neighborhoods in any other major city, it's really not that bad. The campus is very safe.
-NO ONE LIVES ON CAMPUS EXCEPT FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS
Not true.
-THE AREA IS SO BAD THAT THE LIBRARY IS EMPTY AND STUDENTS LEAVE SCHOOL AS SOON AS CLASS IS OVER
Not true. There are students in the beautiful new library and throughout campus regularly into the evening hours.
-THERE IS NO FOOD ON CAMPUS - - - > UNLESS YOU COUNT VENDING MACHINES (WHICH THEY DO)
Wrong. There is an awesome cafeteria right in the middle of campus.
- THERE IS NO FOOD ANYWHERE AROUND CAMPUS -> YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE SCHOOL BY FOOT
Wrong again. There are a number of restaurants less than a mile up the street, including an awesome craft beer/coffee bar.
- ACROSS THE STREET FROM CAMPUS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS PARK IN THE CITY- YOU ARE LITERALLY FORCED TO REMAIN IN CLASS OR OFF CAMPUS
Forced to remain in class or off campus? What are you, the boy in the plastic bubble?. Seems like you'd wet yourself seeing some 'scary urban youths' across the street. God forbid you go to Hastings or Columbia.
- IT IS A COMMUTER SCHOOL
Yes, after college, in a graduate level school, most people commute at least a mile or two to get to campus. Duh.
- UNLESS YOU ARE FROM SACRAMENTO DO NOT ATTEND
Bulletproof logic right here, Vern.
-STUDENTS ALL WENT TO SAC STATE
Citation? No, of course not.
-NO DIVERSITY
Yes, if you went here McGeorge would dramatically improve its 'students suffering from severe mental disease or defect' numbers.
*EXPENSIVE!!!!*
Just under $40,000 before scholarships is not that bad.
LOW RANKED SCHOOL WHERE YOU WILL NEVER EARN BIG MONEY, BUT PAY TOP TUITION MONEY
I can't imagine what ridiculous blanket assumptions you have to say about Tier III and IV schools.

Campus is super safe and I've never experienced anything weird or dangerous off campus in Oak Park
-NO ONE LIVES ON CAMPUS EXCEPT FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS
Super wrong. Out of all the people I know who live on campus (and it's a significant number), I think only like 3 are foreign LLM students.
-THE AREA IS SO BAD THAT THE LIBRARY IS EMPTY AND STUDENTS LEAVE SCHOOL AS SOON AS CLASS IS OVER
This makes no sense. Campus has like...a force field around it. I'm currently sitting in the library...which has become a favorite pastime of mine. The only times I've ever seen the library devoid of students is early in the morning or super late at night (and by late, I mean ~midnight). Otherwise, it's usually pretty packed. Also, the new "Legal Studies Center" is awesome and one of the only places where I can be productive.
-THERE IS NO FOOD ON CAMPUS - - - > UNLESS YOU COUNT VENDING MACHINES (WHICH THEY DO)
I second Tito's comment...the cafeteria in the Student Center is really great. The staff is incredibly friendly. And they make a mean grilled cheese. If you don't like the cafeteria food, never fear! Free pizza is here! (courtesy of like every club on campus. There are always opportunities for free food).
- THERE IS NO FOOD ANYWHERE AROUND CAMPUS -> YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE SCHOOL BY FOOT
Again, seconding Tito's comment (Pangaea is so good!). There some great coffee shops and restaurants near campus. There's also a really cool dive bar right up Franklin that has some great burgers. Oh, and I know lots of people who leave school by foot. I have never felt unsafe on campus. Ever. Oak Park is just like anywhere else, don't walk around by yourself at night and don't be stupid, and you'll be totally fine.
- ACROSS THE STREET FROM CAMPUS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS PARK IN THE CITY- YOU ARE LITERALLY FORCED TO REMAIN IN CLASS OR OFF CAMPUS
Wow, I must be putting myself in serious danger whenever I go to that wonderful farmer's market that they have on Saturdays...
- IT IS A COMMUTER SCHOOL
Duh. Only ~150 students get to live on campus. Besides, Sac's not exactly a big city...you can pretty much get anywhere in like 20 minutes or less...including school.
- UNLESS YOU ARE FROM SACRAMENTO DO NOT ATTEND
Huh?
-STUDENTS ALL WENT TO SAC STATE
Wrong. And even if that were true, why would it matter?
-NO DIVERSITY
Newsflash. That's all law schools and the entire legal profession.
*EXPENSIVE!!!!*
Newsflash, again. Law school is expensive.
LOW RANKED SCHOOL WHERE YOU WILL NEVER EARN BIG MONEY, BUT PAY TOP TUITION MONEY
I know several alumni who have amazing careers and who are making bank. Also, this is a school that has a huge focus on public interest law, public service law, and trial advocacy. These are areas that traditionally don't come with huge paychecks. Those of us who want to pursue those areas of the law are well aware of this.
TOTAL SHAM OF A SCHOOL
I'm enjoying myself quite a bit, thank you very much.

Disclaimer: I will most likely be withdrawing from McGeorge since I am trying to get out of California. However, some of the things that were mentioned in that obviously disgruntled post should be conisdered. Law school is expensive, so work hard and you will you get a good job. The area the school is located is not Beverly Hills, but it is hardly Compton. I visted on Legal Scholars Day, and I enjoyed my visit. I thought the professors were awesome. The new library is very attractive, not Yale attractive, but very nice. I would have been happy to attend McGeorge, of course, the school would have been free for me.
The undergrad school Pacific has a great national reputation, and the law school has a great reputation in northern California. I think Pacific is a very good school.

Stop writing my posts . Same boat, exactly. Sac local, so I applied just for the hell of it, got the Kennedy, considering going but have gotten 2 T14 (plus 2 more T20) admits and don't really want to stay in NorCal forever. McGeorge is a very regional school, but there's no shortage of respect for McGeorge or its grads in the region. There's a very small but nonzero possibility I'd still go here because "free" is hard to argue with, but so is the T14. If it weren't for the top-1/3 stip it'd be a far more serious consideration on my part.h2oplyer7 wrote:Disclaimer: I will most likely be withdrawing from McGeorge since I am trying to get out of California. FYI if your numbers are good enough for t14 I really think you could easily get them to remove the stips. I did and I'm only a 162 3.5xder_saeufer wrote:Stop writing my posts . Same boat, exactly. Re: Pacific-McGeorge c/o 2015 (2011-12 cycle)
I was poking around and found this thread about McGeorge. I have to say that, as a Sacramento resident with ties in the legal community currently applying to law schools here and beyond (McGeorge included - admitted with a scholarship), if you plan to live in the Sacramento region (and I'd venture, at least 30-40 miles beyond in many of the nice communities around) McGeorge is still a strong pick for a regional school.
Why? I was working with a self-represented litigant the other day in Placerville and an attorney happened by, saw what I was doing and asked me a question, and by the end of our brief exchange (during which I mentioned I had recently been accepted to McGeorge) had handed me his card offering me a job while I was in law school. I went and looked him up on the Cal State Bar attorney search and lo and behold - he was a McGeorge alum. I likely would not have gotten that offer had it not been for my name drop. McGeorge is a powerful name in this area and many of Sacramento's law firms, I kid you not, are dominated by McGeorge alums, and the network is strong. I also know for a fact that they dominate at City Hall, and the pay is not too shabby there. Just a thought to consider before you totally rule out McGeorge.
What about me? I personally am looking to get away from Sacramento if possible (and I've got other schools and scholarships lined up for that already) but that's only because I've lived here all my life and I'm ready for a change of scenery, being the restless undergrad I am. If I weren't, McGeorge would be a top pick. There's nothing wrong with going to the only law school located this close to the capitol of California, aka a center of legal and political transaction...
