I've also got it narrowed down a just a couple, but if Richmond comes through with the scholarship money that Dean Rahman said they would it will be hard to walk away from U of R. This is especially true for me since I want to stay in the Richmond area after graduation.vissidarte27 wrote:I'm currently deciding between Richmond and two (possibly three) other schools. I imagine a lot of it will come down to scholarship. Because I plan on going into public interest, I don't want to take on a lot of law school debt if I can help it. I've been given significant money at W&L, so if Richmond doesn't match or beat it, I don't think it would make sense to attend.abbottsbar wrote:For those of you accepted, where does Richmond fall on your list? For me Richmond is near the top. Colorado-Boulder is my #1 because I get in-state and my wife and I love it here in CO, but we still haven't heard from CU other than to be bumped from ED to Regular Admission. That being said, Richmond is basically second barring a fluke acceptance from W&M. I'm tempted to work my way off the W&L wait list, but even if I do I'd probably be paying sticker and the wife (who I agree with) thinks Lexington is just too small.
The top reasons I'd take Richmond over other schools I've been accepted to (specifically Maryland and Denver), their clerkship numbers are great, their job placement is pretty good (especially compared to DU), wife has family in the area and Richmond is definitely a place we could see ourselves long-term, I'd like to get into PD/DA work and it seems like their clinical placement program would be very useful in that pursuit. Also, Richmond is almost $15k cheaper /year than Maryland, as much as I'd love to experience The Wire in real life, Baltimore doesn't make a lot of sense (barring a meaningful scholarship offer).
Hope that helped a little? Helped me to write it out, thanks! #'s - 164/2.3

It does help, and it solidifies why I'm leaning towards Richmond. Having worked in the legal field in Richmond for the last 7+ years I've seen the placement rates that U of R has around here, and it's pretty good.milljp02 wrote:abbottsbar wrote:For those of you accepted, where does Richmond fall on your list? Best of luck with CU, if not I'll see you in the Fall.
edit: It also appears you are a non-traditional, glad I'm not the only one.

If Richmond is your first choice, send the letter, tell them why. Comes visit, talk to an admissions rep. Take a tour, tell the LSAR why you're interested. Make it clear you want to be at Richmond. They take that stuff seriously.llachans wrote:I applied in November but still no decision. Should I send a letter about my continued interest or wait it out?

congrats! Richmond is a great school, so the excitement is understandable!el William wrote:Ok so my phone has been off since yesterday, turned it on tonight at 830 and saw that I had a text message from the admissions dean at Richmond. I decided I would call back just to see if anyone answered the phone at 830...
Well they did! Dean Rahman just offered me admission to the school and I'd that I should expect between 15,000 and 18,000 in scholarship money.
My app went complete on 1/19. This is the first school I have heard back from and I am sooooooo excited right now!

at this point, it is top on my list. i'm from the area, so its in a convenient location. taking that along with how impressed i've been with the school, its a winner for me.abbottsbar wrote:For those of you accepted, where does Richmond fall on your list? plus, it seems that since i've applied i've met tons of people who have graduated from UR and are doing quite well, so i'm more convinced of what a great school it is.

I think for me it's going to take the John Marshall which I'm sure I have a pretty slim chance of getting. I went to undergrad at UR and want to work in Richmond after so it's really tempting but I'm leaning towards W&M. Still expect to go to the ASW though to check it out.abbottsbar wrote:For those of you accepted, where does Richmond fall on your list? Will it all depend on the scholarships awarded?

Re: University of Richmond c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
I am thinking that Richmond will not be my first choice if I get accepted at WFU or UNC. I live in NC so even with the scholarship offer from Richmond UNC will close to the same price. I have always seen Wake as my first choice, mainly because I am a Winston-Salem native and My girlfriend has a great job here. It would be a really easy transition.
If I do not get into these schools then Richmond moves to the top of the list. I am still waiting to hear from PennState though and I have heard that employment prospects might be a little better coming out of PSU. Major legal markets like Philly and DC do recruit from PSU and I have not heard the same about Richmond. That being said, I am really impressed by the personal nature of the admissions process at Richmond, which I am sure carries over into the law school in general. I went to a really smal lib arts school for undergrad and the small personalized feel has always really appealed to me.
Also, for all those non traditional applicants out there, you are not alone. I am 27 and have been working as a retail manager for the last 7 years. I would loe to hear from other nontrad applicants as well as anyone who can shed some light on what it's like to be an older student at any of the law schools I just mentioned.

I'd also love to hear from some of the non-traditionals at U of R. I'm sure I'll be one of the older students in the Fall, seeing as how I'll turn 33 as the school year starts.el William wrote:I am thinking that Richmond will not be my first choice if I get accepted at WFU or UNC. Re: University of Richmond c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
I went to Wake for undergrad, loved it. Great school, good people, the city was in trouble when I was there, though (98-01). Wachovia was bought and moved, RJR was in trouble, young people were leaving town in a hurry. I've heard most of that has changed now and it should be a nice (and inexpensive) place to live. Wake was #2 on my list, but I got dinged (I basically drank my way out of Wake back then, so I'm not surprised they said "this asshole again? No thanks"). Oh well, wasn't meant to be! Richmond looks to be a better fit for me anyway.el William wrote:I am thinking that Richmond will not be my first choice if I get accepted at WFU or UNC. I'll turn 32 during 1L (Sept) and I'm newly married, so definitely count me in the Non-Trad group!
Good luck

So I got an email today from U of R about Mock Law School Admissions being held in the area and if I visited their booth I would get a fee waiver...too bad I already applied several weeks ago and have already contacted the office to add an addendum...LOL. When I first read the email I glanced over it and I almost thought they were mocking my admissions process, because Mock Law School Admissions is in bold....but alas, just inviting me to something that at this point won't really be helpful. It's killing me not to have a status checker for U of R, what's everyone's average wait times so far?

Whether or not I get in the JMS program pretty much makes or breaks UR for me. Love the campus and the school though, and Richmond is a place I could see myself living.

According to LSN, Richmond has hardly rejected anyone and all the decisions rendered up to now were admissions, disheartening news for those of us who haven't heard back.

Best of luck to all who haven't heard anything yet. From looking at LSN, it appears that people were accepted with significant scholarship money as late as March 7 last year.

I have been complete since 11/28. The more I read about the school, the more I like it. I just saw they cashed my app fee check today so hopefully next week I'll hear something. If I get dinged I'll be kinda upset given all of the positive promotional material I've gotten so far.
