Hm. All my applications are in and I'm now wondering if I should toss an app towards UIUC. 3.5/160. Would it be worth the shot? (I know the fee is waived, but since it's so like in the cycle, is it still worth giving it a go?)

You probably won't be admitted or even WL'd. But you could spend $16 on worse things

I was an ED at UIUC and just received my acceptance email! I was a long shot with a 163 LSAT and a 2.81 LSAC GPA, but a 3.8 graduating institution. Strong upward trends and 10 years of work experience, plus strong ties in the community were all softs that must have helped.

Congrats!

Question: does UIUC guarantee any money for ED’s?

Dean Pless told me in August that they intended to at least meet the $8k per student that was provided last year. However, the new staff seem to indicate that will probably not be the case. I don't think much in life is truly guaranteed.

Very true. Congrats nonetheless. Despite everything, UIUC has some stellar professors and will always have a presence in the Chicago market.

With no app fee this year, the budget is probably tight now. I would imagine the money will go toward trying hard to improve medians.

I don't think that the app fee is going to have much of an effect.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I thought it was a response to the scandal.

No, the waived app fee was one of Pless's ideas. As was the whole jack up tuition prices so that everyone can have a "scholarship" idea.

He's a troll who appears to be trying to make "lol just lol" his catchphrase. He also thinks he knows everything about law school and legal employment even though he's a 1l

Thank you and everyone for the congrats. My path was not easy and the low GPA is from 10+ years old classes. I have been a 4.0 since deciding to return to school to pursue this goal. I had great letters from my professors (at least that is what they told me), and I had years of experience running my own consulting business.

I grew up in C-U and understand the level of quality that it provides. Having lived in other areas of the country I can personally attest to a great alumni network as well. I think that the admissions scandal issues will be a small blur for those who speak inside baseball. I don't think it will tremendously damage the reputation in the long run. Saying that, I'm sure that UIUC is working hard to protect their medians and I'm very grateful that they were still willing to look past the simple numbers in my case.

edit: for bad spell check correction
