Did you get a handwritten letter? Mine had a personal note that referenced what they found attractive about me.
The truth though is that they admitted you because of your numbers.

Yeah I did, but I feel it pretty much congratulated me on my numbers. It was still nice though

All my note said was a messy "hope you join us next fall!" or something similarly generic. My app wasn't attractive enough to inspire personalizationBlumpbeef wrote:Did you get a handwritten letter? Mine had a personal note that referenced what they found attractive about me.

Re: GW c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Could it be because of rolling admissions and that they accepted a lot of earlier applicants? I'm wondering if that's what happened with me.
I have a bit of an odd situation with GW. I'm an Army paratrooper stationed in Italy and the logistics for the October LSAT fell through, so I took the December one out here. Got a 175. I have a Master's with a 3.91 GPA from Maryland's distance arm (UMUC), but my undergrad GPA at Florida State was lousy (2.66). It's been nearly 11 years since I graduated from FSU, though. I now speak Arabic, have been to Iraq/Afghanistan, etc etc.
Barely two weeks after I submitted my application, I got an e-mail saying I was waitlisted. I never got one saying the application was complete or under consideration, just that I was waitlisted, and that e-mail arrived 11 business days after I clicked 'submit' on the LSAC site. Props to GW for the fast turnaround! But something feels strange.
Living here in Italy means being a bit isolated from the law school process, but this still caught me by surprise. I applied to five other schools and only two have told me the application was complete and under consideration, more or less made a decision.
Anyone's thoughts are welcome - thanks!

Most schools are very veiled with their review process. You're lucky you heard back from GW so quickly. Hopefully you get into a school of you liking; with you're LSAT score, I assume you will. I am surprised that GW WL'd you though; they seem to be splitter friendly (at least in years past).vicerealist wrote:Could it be because of rolling admissions and that they accepted a lot of earlier applicants? Any one else get the Public Interest Fellows email? LOL at using IBR to call LRAPs at other schools unimportant, but is that just the $4k summer funding/meeting with Dean Morrison? It didn't mention any scholarship in the email.
How soon after your acceptance did you get the Public Interest Fellows email?
I was accepted on 2/3, and practically every page of my application stressed my interest in public interest. (Plus, the Dean's handwritten note said that she was impressed by my public interest experience). I did get the preview day email on 2/7, but nothing about Public Interest Fellows...
I didn't see any info on the admitted students site, or on the main site, other than the summer funding and 3L fellows program.

I'm almost positive it's YP for you. Also, congrats on hearing back so fast. I've been sitting on a complete date of 11/10 like it's my job. Re: GW c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Looks like it was YP (a term which I had to Google). I told you I was isolated from the admission process. =] I got admitted to UVA today, less than three weeks after I applied. Apparently YP is a quite real phenomenon. I can understand it from a realpolitik point of view, but it still seem like manipulation of statistics over honest treatment of applicants. Does anyone really pay attention to such percentages? I wouldn't have applied to GW if I wasn't willing to go there, after all. But the timing and nature of the decision match perfectly with what is described as "yield protection."jhw219 wrote:I'm almost positive it's YP for you. Also, congrats on hearing back so fast. Anyone know if they are willing to negotiate scholarships? I really want to go to GW but 60K and a significantly lower COL at WUSTL is going to be pretty hard to turn down.

Re: GW c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Try to negotiate regardless of whether they usually do so. =] I'd tell them exactly what you wrote in your post - it's a nice, straightforward way to express it. If they say no, at least you tried. I'd be proactive about it and approach them as soon as possible.Litts787 wrote:Anyone know if they are willing to negotiate scholarships? That's an overly broad view. If a school in GW's position can prop up a statistic using YP with seemingly zero loss to themselves, it's a sound strategy in many ways. (I'd say there are losses, but they aren't as easily quantifiable.) Whether it's worth x% in some compiled formula or something less than x isn't their main concern. By waitlisting, they keep someone on the back burner in case they are still interested come late March, which is specifically when they said they'd check back in and request a status update.hoos89 wrote:acceptance rate is actually .025 of the usnwr rankings
