The consensus from last year's thread is that most of the time he did mention financial aid in the initial phone call, although it could also be negotiated later.

He told me last year over the phone. He was open to negotiation but wouldn't budge much before ASW. I withdrew before hardballing though.

No mention of an initial offer over the phone, Accepted 11/2. Just going to play the waiting game (since it's so early and see what happens). Probably will have to wait on other acceptances and money to start the "talks".

If I remember correctly, last year merit aid info was mailed out a short time after acceptance, and if you were getting merit aid they usually (but not always) mentioned in the admit phone call that you'd be receiving aid info in the mail.

Edit: Actually, looking back at my posts from when I was admitted, it looks like they tell you over the phone.

Yeah some merit awards are mentioned over the phone. I got the call literally 30 minutes ago, telling me about acceptance and offering money
