Like many top schools, Tulane is deferral-friendly as long as you have a solid reason for waiting, such as an internship/externship, community service or job offer (such as with Teach for America, AmeriCorps or a firm), financial reason, religious reason (such as sabbatical), political reason, medical reasons/sick relative that you are caring for. You will not lose your scholly, if the experiences of past students are any indication.Dash41 wrote:Does anyone know how hard it is to defer for one year at Tulane? And if you do defer can you keep your scholarship? The bad part in my situation is I wouldn't know until late July whether I wanted to or not depending on a job offer.

Hopping on a plane to the ASW in a few hours! Let's hope I love it and they make me forget about the rankings

I don't think Facebook could have made the group-creating process more annoying if they tried. Let's get some more people in here!Californiagirl949 wrote:Whooo hoooooo Justine!!

There's really no way to at this point. But if anyone starts trolling and/or posting about free iPads or making $3,407 a day from home, they shall be swiftly banned.mss455 wrote:TheFailboat wrote:I don't think Facebook could have made the group-creating process more annoying if they tried. Re: 2011-2012 Tulane
I actually called them up after this and it seems like they would grant a deferral. They said I would go back in the scholarship pool, but said most students get similar scholarships. I would not want it to go down obviously though as I feel like that can greatly impact decision making process obviously. Hopefully it wouldn't. Maybe it would even go up?PDaddy wrote:Like many top schools, Tulane is deferral-friendly as long as you have a solid reason for waiting, such as an internship/externship, community service or job offer (such as with Teach for America, AmeriCorps or a firm), financial reason, religious reason (such as sabbatical), political reason, medical reasons/sick relative that you are caring for. There might be an official page later. A lot of schools make them after deposits come in.TheFailboat wrote:There's really no way to at this point. The ASW itself was okay. I didn't learn much more than I already knew about Tulane, but I learned a lot more about NOLA and was sad to leave. DC looked so sad and pathetic when I landedsdphill wrote:How was ASW?!

I was surprised at the number of older students I met. Overall I was impressed with the school and city. It has definitely bumped the school up on my list.sdphill wrote:How was ASW?!

It was pretty much the same as your write up.sdphill wrote:How was ASW?!
Things I noticed while there:
campus is very well manicured
current students are friendly
new orleans looks like it is about to float away into the swamp/ocean
pj's iced coffee is pretty good
no real bike lanes off campus
Also, bar night was a good time! Drank LA beer, talked bad about Loyola (juuust kidding), and had an elderly drunk gentleman decide one of our party was his wife. More bar nights to come.

I do hope that gentleman found his wife, or at least figured out who she was and what she looked like...ckelly85 wrote:Also, bar night was a good time! Re: 2011-2012 Tulane
Agreed on this. Overall, I really liked the campus, and the current students I encountered were friendly and seemed bright. However, I found many of the speakers to be a bit dry (is anyone truly EXCITED and enthusiastic and absolutely IN LOVE with the school? If so, I'm not sure that came through), and the career info session was not all that impressive. A lot of the information was very vague and general, in my opinion. I do not doubt that half a dozen students from the past few graduating classes have landed some prestigious and/or unique jobs (as presented in the powerpoint); however, that is not all that reassuring for those of us weighing the actual career prospects out of Tulane. Other schools I have visited presented graphs and charts outlining this data, even if such figures were not overly impressive. I would have asked about these figures at the Q&A portion of the session if there had been time for one! I just did not get the impression that Tulane students are finding solid summer associate opportunities or abundant post-grad opportunities. I realize that is largely a product of the economy/job market, but it seemed like things were rougher for Tulane students than I've found of other law students at similarly ranked schools in cities with larger legal markets. It definitely did seem like Tulane does well placing students into local public interest jobs, but firm prospects and opportunities outside the region seemed less than promising. One current student (a 3L) told me that almost all of the firms who come for OCI are LA firms. He also told me that opportunities outside of the southeastern US, Texas, and California (?) are few and far between. I have no idea if this is correct information, but it bummed me out a little nonetheless.pugilistjd wrote:The ASW itself was okay. This is just my takeaway feeling from ASD. Please feel free to offer any additional perspectives on the career situation or anything else!
