Dude, I was out of state, and they offered me a in-state tuition equalization, plus more money a little later in the cycle. I have the Post 9/11 GI Bill as well. Not only is law school free, but you get whatever the VA overpays back as a refund. You'll definitely get in-state for 2L and 3L, so if you have 3 years of the GI Bill left, law school is free. If you don't get an equalization the GI Bill won't cover everything if you're paying an out of state rate. However, since you got in early you should be good.Redclh wrote:I guess I am in a little different situation, as even though W&M offered 10000 dollars/year as some sort of in-state out-of-state tuition equalization, it doesn't matter to me because of the GI Bill. So the "scholarship" they offered was for far less than face value. I guess what I meant is that hopefully Georgia doesn't use the same tactic for me personally, though I could see how it would be beneficial to others.eandy wrote: They are by default because everyone gets instate after 1L. It's virtually impossible to get instate in Virginia.

Excellent info. Wasn't sure if they did this, as a lot of schools don't. Thanks.jarv1506 wrote:Dude, I was out of state, and they offered me a in-state tuition equalization, plus more money a little later in the cycle. I have the Post 9/11 GI Bill as well. Does anyone know when the admitted student day or weekend is? Like a loser I accidentally pressed skip on the ASW "to do list" for the RSVP.

Just got my acceptance letter in the mail!
It included a 'Georgia Law' decal and a merit scholarship letter ($5,000 p/y), which makes UGA an even better deal.
It's a thin envelope, sent by first class mail (they've already sent out viewbooks). I live near the school, so don't be surprised if you've been accepted via status checker but don't get one today.

Ugh lucky! I just checked my mail but it hasn't gotten here yet, and I'm in close to the school too!AntipodeanPhil wrote:Just got my acceptance letter in the mail!

Just checked, it says March 31, although I don't really see how to RSVP on the website.Champion wrote:Does anyone know when the admitted student day or weekend is? Like a loser I accidentally pressed skip on the ASW "to do list" for the RSVP.

That's weird. I'm further away than you. Perhaps they had to wait to put something special in your package.BKCentral wrote:Ugh lucky! I just checked my mail but it hasn't gotten here yet, and I'm in close to the school too!AntipodeanPhil wrote:Just got my acceptance letter in the mail!

Accepted in-state with a modest merit scholarship!
Any thoughts on whether UGA will continue to review files for additional scholarship opportunities or if it will be up to negotiating in order to get more?

I received my letter today-got the tuition equalization scholarship. If I can get in-state for 2L and 3L years, it becomes almost cheaper than staying in-state. Def something good to think about.

No idea, but last year the first merit scholarships didn't come out until later in December, at least according to last year's thread. Mind sharing your numbers (or PM if you don't feel comfortable)?legalJacket wrote:Accepted in-state with a modest merit scholarship!

Im wondering the same thing. I actually applied last cycle (in Feb) and got 7500. This year I apply in Oct and get 5000. Not trying to be greedy, but I kinda expected georgia to do a little better than REGRESSION.BKCentral wrote:No idea, but last year the first merit scholarships didn't come out until later in December, at least according to last year's thread. Yeah, I got that. Seems like a nice idea to me. Better than W&M, which makes you work 10 hours a week for the money.ralph_pootawn wrote:recieved my packet today with tuition equalization and 5000 a year. Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Purely conjecture, but I wonder if the initial offer could be to maintain interest while they wait until later in the cycle to dole out more dollars when they have a better picture of the pool.T00L wrote:Im wondering the same thing. Is this totally against the law school admissions norm? Seems like an interesting way to manage a pool.

If that is done the same way as in the past they'll give you the materials for that in 1L fall if you end up attending.ralph_pootawn wrote:recieved my packet today with tuition equalization and 5000 a year. I'm in-state, and a UGA alum for my grad degree. Not sure if they'll consider that "academic incest" or if they'll like it.

I got the in state equalization scholarship for the first year but didn't get anything else. Is that the only scholarship offer I can expect or will they send out additional moneys later?

I don't know about more scholly info, but most everyone gets in state their last two years if you're wondering why it's only for 1L.tuco wrote:I got the in state equalization scholarship for the first year but didn't get anything else. last year I got the in state equalization to begin with, and then I was offered an additional scholarship later in the cycle. so it is possible that you will be offered more money later, but I think they get a better idea of what their applicant pool looks like before they offer additional money.tuco wrote:I got the in state equalization scholarship for the first year but didn't get anything else. Just a heads up for admitted students: I got a letter today from the Dean of the Law School with some information about the program. I live close to the school and seem to get mailings a day or two before everyone else, so the rest of you should expect a letter soon. Don't think it's scholarship money when you see the envelope!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
