It's going alright so far, no rejections... Hopefully that trend will continue with UGA. How about yourself?

Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Same for me but I have yet to hear back from any of the top-tier schools to which I applied... so it could be that the rejections are still coming. But, keeping my fingers crossed. It's such a painful wait for those of us who LSATted in December... b/c it seems like every one is hearing back already.georgia32 wrote:It's going alright so far, no rejections... Has anybody received any scholarship information on a 2nd wave? I really like UGA, but being from Alabama (qualifying immediately in state) plus receiving scholly money from Bama already makes UGA pretty hard to even consider at this point.

1. Don't know.ClassyKelly wrote: 1. I sent an email about 5 days ago explaining why I would like them to reconsider my scholarship award (tuition equalization + 5K per year). Wake Forest offered 30K each year so I used that as a bargaining tool. I haven't heard back from UGA yet. Has anyone engaged in any scholarship negotiation with UGA? If so, how long did it take to hear back? How generous were they upon your request for review/increase in award?
2. I'm an AA female and I'd like to hear from an AA UGA student or anyone who knows about the BLSA chapter. I would like to know more about it's size and influence. Do they hold networking events with BLSA alumni? Is there a large BLSA alumni network? Any other information on BLSA that could be helpful is appreciated.
3. I'll be in West Africa during Jones Day and other ASD events. How helpful/necessary are these events to admitted students? Is it a major disadvantage that I can't attend the events?
2. BLSA has networking events and such and they sell all the school apparel. I don't know who is president right now, but if you contact Gregory Roseboro, he can get you that info and anything else you want to know about BLSA (he's in charge of diversity stuff)
3. As I said above, Jones Day reception is not important at all. You'll get better opportunities as a 1L like that. At ASD, nothing earth shattering occurs. You meet future classmates and some faculty, go on a tour, see a moot court demo...
On a visit any other time, you can meet faculty, go on a tour, sit in on a class, etc. I'd bet that you could talk to moot or mock students, too. If you have a big conflict, you should still visit, but don't worry that you can't come on ASD weekend.
Edit: Roseboro contact info can be found here: http://law.uga.edu/contact-admissions

UR as of today, definitely just happened within the last hour. Anyone have turnaround times from their decisions?

Hate to tell you this, but I'm pretty sure I've been UR since October. Some other people have had better turnarounds and they can probably give you better information, but there's no guarantee of a fast turnaround.Lvaughn714 wrote:UR as of today, definitely just happened within the last hour. Honestly, I'm an extreme splitter with no real ties to UGA, so I'm probably being held until they have a better sense of their application pool. If you've got ties or relatively consistent numbers, it seems like the process has been somewhat painless.Lvaughn714 wrote:I only submitted last Thursday so my timeline seems deceptively quick thus far but I can dream right?chill wrote:Hate to tell you this, but I'm pretty sure I've been UR since October. My grandfather was founder and commander of the Georgia state guard after several decades of military services in Georgia and my uncle went to law school and practiced in Georgia before moving to tx but he went to Georgia state. Maybe if someone on the committee gives a hoot about military they might care but otherwise who knows. I'm also a splitter and non traditional so I should probably just calm down.chill wrote:Honestly, I'm an extreme splitter with no real ties to UGA, so I'm probably being held until they have a better sense of their application pool. If you are 166+ splitter then you almost certainly have nothing to worry about.Lvaughn714 wrote: My grandfather was founder and commander of the Georgia state guard after several decades of military services in Georgia and my uncle went to law school and practiced in Georgia before moving to tx but he went to Georgia state. Been under review since early January, 165/3.5... though I did have to include a c&f addendum so I'm assuming that will delay my decision, have very strong softs to hopefully offset this though... keeping my fingers crossed

Will be making a journey down to Athens during my spring break. Looking forward to visiting a prospective school. I have heard very good things about Athens and UGA.

Where are you driving from? I'm driving 7 hours north for another school's ASW in a couple of weeks, and not at all happy about the thought of it.prettyhorsederpychan wrote:also back on jones day, I think I will go afterall! Here's to hoping I won't die trying to drive to atl!!
Wondering how many TLSers will rep at UGA's AS Reception, I feel like there isn't too much in the way of a UGA tls community

Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
haha I'm going to sound super lame but I'll be driving from Mall of Georgia area, which really only is like an hour away from ATL. BUT IN MY DEFENSE I just got my license and highways are TERRIFYING. I can't imagine driving 7 hours for an asw though! (but I did only apply to schools in GA so I kind of fail in that aspect too haha) May I ask which school??BKCentral wrote:Where are you driving from? Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Haha I understand what you mean, I grew up just north of ATL so I hate having to drive on 285 and 75/85. And sure, it's for Wash & Lee (woulda flown but W&L gave $300 travel stipend and cheapest flights from ATL to Roanoke were about $425!!) Luckily other schools I'll be visiting are too far to drive so flight is the only option. Glad UGA is so close though At least you don't have to worry about dishing out even more $$ visiting far away places!prettyhorsederpychan wrote:haha I'm going to sound super lame but I'll be driving from Mall of Georgia area, which really only is like an hour away from ATL. I'm still waiting... I think they're waiting to see the shape of the pool before getting back to me... I've been complete since beginning January. 163, 3.5, URM.nolubba1037 wrote:I sent out my application on 12/29 they got it the next week then I found out I was accepted today (160/3.8, strong softs). i don't recall when they put up the under review status for me.Lvaughn714 wrote:UR as of today, definitely just happened within the last hour. Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
sorry for keeping posting.. emails that everyone gets but is anyone attending "Public Interest Celebration and the Working in the Public Interest (WIPI) Conference" (long name!)? I think this would be a great way to really view UGA Law / campus in the perspective of a student. One thing that does bug me is that the Jones Day reception is the thursday beforehand, so the events feel little close to one and other. Regardless, sounds like a great opportunity and it's very good to see that the UGA student body is being so active in welcoming the new admits!
also, bkcentral: Congrats on your W&L acceptance! hopefully the drive up north won't be too bad for you! (as in, hopefully no snowpoclypting :p) It must be so nice to be accepted to so many schools haha, and being able to see various law schools/student bodies.

Re: Georgia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I actually think the Conference is one of the best things I've been invited to from any school. Very excited to go (but definitely agree it seems like a little too much in just a couple of days with the reception that Thursday).
And yeah derpy I'm pretty excited to be able to take a step back and look at a few different options before making a huge choice like this! Gunna be a long couple of months. Congrats on your Emory acceptance btw, saw it on the other forum! (I'm still waiting to hear back from them -_-)

So I had a strange urge this morning to pull out my 1980's era Georgia hoodie that I inherited from my Uncle. Thought maybe it was a sign and guess what? Accepted today via status checker!
