Only 2.5% of the ranking is selectivity. W&L remedies this by making it free to apply (I am assuming this was how it was in the past?). It is probably unlikely that it has a HUGE impact on their ranking.T00L wrote:Their yield is like 10%. W&L seems like that type of place to me so I was thinking about going about it in that fashion (and cuz my leverage is only mediocre-same scholly at a school ranked slightly below but that scholly is a larger proportion of tuition). They honestly just seem more personal than most schools.

This might be a dumb question (and doesn't impact my decision, I'm just curious), but any idea why W&L fell in the rankings by about 10 spots since 2000-2008 and has stayed there?

Maybe not HUGE, but 2.5% can be significant, esp with all these schools vying for the same thingjosh43299 wrote:Only 2.5% of the ranking is selectivity. I'm envious of myself! It came out of nowhere but I've sat down and thought about it for two days and I'm sure it's what I want to do. What you shouldn't envy is the $750 that just came out of my bank account. Ouch. Steep deposit.kroakstool wrote:How I envy you!ashley12 wrote:Alright friends it's official. I'm depositing. Yeah it is pretty high. I think they want people to really second guess depositing and waiting on a waitlist.ashley12 wrote:I'm envious of myself! I randomly checked the status checker even though I am already admitted. My mailings were updated with three letters. One each from Deans Grunewald, Danforth, and Evans. Does anybody else have that going on?

Yeah once you're admitted they send out a letter from each of the deans.kroakstool wrote:I randomly checked the status checker even though I am already admitted. My mailings were updated with three letters. One each from Deans Grunewald, Danforth, and Evans. Does anybody else have that going on?

Yeah. I'll get on it eventually. My phone is having issues right now and I have a paper to finish tonight, so tomorrow or the next day I'll go back and update. They aren't anything special anyways.noleknight16 wrote:Congrats Ashley!!! I disagree. you actually miss 0% of the shots you don't take. I never understood that quote, regardless of its "inspirational" message. The way I see it, if you don't take any shots, you can't possibly miss a shot.... That said... yes.. try negotiating! Re: W&L c/o 2015
Tough that W&L's ASW was the first one I went to because they set the bar pretty high and I think other schools will have a hard time matching. All the students I met were great and one took me all around Sat. night at Jazzy nights and the bar afterwards. I was surprised that they came from all over and there were not as many from Virginia as I would have thought. Also really thought the whole "community" thing was BS at first but by the end I was totally buying it, its really something you have to see for yourself.
Things I really liked: personal study carrels, small sections 1L, Friday football, the 3L curriculum, honor code (being able to buy stuff and pay later, etc.)
As for the building it seemed a little outdated and isn't nearly as nice looking as the rest of campus but its not awful either. Pretty nice on the inside and the classrooms seemed more homely than others I've seen (smaller, nicer chairs). Plenty of parking which is nice. It's a bit segregated from the undergrad campus, but you just have to walk across a bridge. The gym is probably a 5 min walk.
I really liked Lexington and my GF who came expected to hate it and ended up liking it as well. Definitely small town but the way everything is condensed downtown is really neat. Also seems like the food options are really great considering how small it is. The bar, Macado's, everyone goes to is a lot of fun and its kind of cool having the entire law school go out to one place.
For the record I only met one TLSer over the weekend

Thanks for the feedback -- I'm planning on attending ASW March 17ap613 wrote:Tough that W&L's ASW was the first one I went to because they set the bar pretty high and I think other schools will have a hard time matching. Has anyone else committed? Or very close to committing? I'm going to ASW on March 30th I think I may deposit after the weekend, assuming I enjoy the weekend.

It's my number 1 so I'm really leaning towards it.
In other news, I just realized that my ASW is St. Patrick's Day... and I have to leave after dinner Saturday night for my red-eye flight back home on Sunday. No partying for me.
