Probably depends on your GPA
3.8?
How would being above both medians be considered "not good" in a year that's almost guaranteed to see a huge drop in applicants?
Someone earlier posted that Texas had an increase in applicants this year, according to the Dean, so people are worried that the medians aren't good predictors this year. It's a few pages back. Regardless, I still think being above both medians gives you a solid shot. Looking at LSN for last year, 168's with 3.8+ were all accepted. I don't even think the cycle has gone on long enough to say that total applicants have gone up. Maybe they're just front-end heavy this year.

True, but even with the increase I doubt their medians will increase overwhelmingly this cycle. And I doubt 168+, 3.8+ scorers would go from getting in-state tuition waivers and additional scholarships to being straight-up WLed or rejected.

It's what I got. I'm thinking that's the highest they are giving out. The only higher offer I've seen was full tuition, but that was to a URM.

Woke up to a nicely worded rejection email that came at 4AM. Bummer  (Sent Oct 17, Complete Oct 25) Numbers were below the 25%, so it was a big reach school. Good luck to everyone else still waiting.

I received a $93k total scholarship...I believe they broke it down as $48k to equalize OOS to in-state and a $45k scholarship.

Absolutely. (Says the 3.85/168 applicant.)

Congrats. I'd say an acceptance this early suggests a scholarship might be in your future.

I need advice:

Texas is my #1 choice (below the median by a hair, but above the 25th / TX resident). I have already secured one letter of recommendation from a professor, and am currently waiting on another one. I really want to send in both letters because I know they will both be good and boost my mediocre numbers. Problem is I'm not quite sure when the letter will come in (my bet is sometime after Thanksgiving break). Should I wait? Or just send it in? Is there any chance that Texas will consider my second letter if it arrives a week or two after my completed application?

I would go ahead and apply now. Chances are they won't begin to even look at your application for at least 3 weeks after you submit you application. You should have plenty of time to get the LOR in your file before they review it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't love that Texas lies about not doing merit based fee waivers. Why lie? Why not say "you don't qualify?"

I second this. I was faced with a similar situation and submitted with one LOR.

I don't understand it either. I mean I know they want as many people to apply as possible but don't they understand that applicants talk to each other as well?

But FWIW it's not just Texas. From this cycle's threads, at least BU and a couple other top tier schools have done the same thing.
