No mention in the email. I'm living abroad now and they are shipping my packet to me. Nice of them considering that's a bit more expensive.jasonxu89 wrote:Congrats! Did they mention money in your email? Mine didn't.... By the way, the email is really early today, 7ish CDT.

Congrats to all accepted! If you received any scholly info, it will not be in the email or phone call, but it will be in the admit package they mail to you. It seems like they have been pretty gracious with the money this cycle..

Anyone know if scholly offers in acceptance letters are final? Can more come later in the cycle? With or without bargaining?

Yes. Normally you'll have to try to bargain but there are some that get it anyway.T00L wrote:Anyone know if scholly offers in acceptance letters are final? Can more come later in the cycle? With or without bargaining?

Anybody have a guess as to how they do scholarship money? I got 36K and people with my same exact stats are getting twice as much. What gives?

If you're a VA resident, some of that might be from the graduate fellowships offered to OOS applicants ($14,000/yr), since instate students aren't eligible.butchcassidy wrote:Anybody have a guess as to how they do scholarship money? Speaking of the fellowships, does anyone know if submitting an essay to the fellowship increases the amount of time it takes to process your app? I wrote one for the Institute of Bill of Rights Law and haven't heard anything since going complete in early November. Has anyone else applied to a fellowship?

That's surprising to me.... I always thought LS's could be impressed by varying factors and that explains some surprising admits / denials, but I also thought scholly was pretty much just based on combo of when you submitted / numbersminnbills wrote:Yeah a few people with similar #s got twice as much, I was disappointed.butchcassidy wrote:Anybody have a guess as to how they do scholarship money? That's because this forum fetishizes numbers above anything else

Lol if you don't see how important numbers / almost all of the semi-surprising admits are URM

Numbers are definitely important. But TLS does suffer from a self-selecting bias. I know non URM admits that were below medians at schools and were admitted against all odds. People that TLS would say have no chance. Granted, these people had good softs, but TLS suggests softs are mostly irrelevant and do not bridge gaps the way that these admits would.ThreeRivers wrote:Lol if you don't see how important numbers / almost all of the semi-surprising admits are URMThreeRivers wrote:and facts back that up loltennisking88 wrote:That's because this forum fetishizes numbers above anything else
If you want an example suitable for this thread, a good friend of mine was admitted to W&M last year with 3.4/161. Early in the cycle as well. Not a day on the waitlist. And was even WL'd at UVA until he withdrew.

There are always exceptions / chances that a school will somehow fall in love with your little story. I think most TLSers are aware of this / is the reason applying to a couple reaches because you "never know" is an encouraged practiceEMZE wrote:Numbers are definitely important. Agreed. Like I said, numbers are always important, because a school will not forgive what it perceives as a person not able to keep up with the class. And below both median admits are, obviously, exceptions. I think people just need to be honest with themselves as to what a good soft is. Internships, working as a paralegal, MBA are all good things that solidify an application, but they aren't unique. In my case, military experience is not unique. What matters is distinguishing yourself within your field. Also, obviously much harder to do if applying from undergrad, short of a one of those prestigious scholarships deals.ThreeRivers wrote:There are always exceptions / chances that a school will somehow fall in love with your little story. Fallacy... Half the class is below the LSAT median and half the class is below the GPA median, but that does not mean half the class is below both.InGoodFaith wrote:Or, by definition, half the class.EMZE wrote:And below both median admits are, obviously, exceptions

From what i understand the people who fall below medians either have URMs status or are splitters who make up for it by being at or above another median. Falling below BOTH medians as a non-URM I would agree is pretty rare.InGoodFaith wrote:Or, by definition, half the class.EMZE wrote:And below both median admits are, obviously, exceptions
