Meh, it's not like the abbreviations are even consistent. There's the A in UVA, while it's UPenn and not UPA. WUSTL takes the first letter from each word but for some reason uses the abbreviation for saint.

I think we should try to get either UVirg or UPA to catch on. No?

My undergrad recently changed the athletics logo from OSU to OS, ostensibly to avoid confusion with the other OSUs. But of course we don't call it OS, because that's retarded. The football chant still goes "OHHHHH! ESSSSS! YOUUUUU! O-S-U! Fight fight fight!"
