Also for whoever was talking about autoadmits earlier...an extremely tiny number of people have gotten in so far, judging by the official facebook group. So there's just no way those are finished. (although as someone said, they may be done for 2011, but 2012 is gonna be good for TLS!)

I really hope they're calling more people next week. LSN data (incomplete though they are) look really scary if you sort by complete date and look at the waves of decisions for early applicants.

and to echo ladybug, there are only 5 admits in the facebook group so far—tiny indeed! there are likely a handful of others out there, and there should be a few more coming in after this second wave. but in any event, there are clearly A LOT of spots (auto-admit and otherwise) left for YLS to fill! good news for everyone whether that good news is set to come in 2011 or 2012...
last year, according to the twitter, they made offers up till dec 21 before closing on dec 22... not sure what that means for this cycle, but looks like there's at least some chance of another round before the year is up. so (as wonderfully hilarious as that face is!) no need to fret/freak out just yet!!
yes to an "in at yale" thread!

There are still only five admitted students in the Facebook group. Maybe the people from yesterday are pending approval? Did anyone other than MoC get in yesterday? The fewer the better until I get in.

update: 4 new members in group = 9 admits total after second wave. I'd say that's still VERy few, even taking into account any others out there (i.e. those not on fb)—there can't be allll that many.soj wrote:There are still only five admitted students in the Facebook group. Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I know I'm about twenty steps behind the rest of you guys, but I'm wondering if anyone can shed a little light on a minutiae-type question. Right now on the Yale app there are two places to attach "Activities" documents - the "Activities and Work" section and the "Post-school Activities." The latter (which I don't think was there when the app first went up) is optional and asks you to explain what you've been up to if you've been out of school for more than three months.
I haven't sent anything out yet, but I originally put my post-graduation activities in section (c) of the Activities and Work section. I'm debating whether to take it out and put it separately in the optional "Post-school Activities" addendum, or just to leave out the "Post-school Activities" and keep everything in the Activities and Work section. Haven't found anything about this in this thread. How have other people been doing this?

I am pretty sure that "Activities and Work" is supposed to only be things that you did while you were a college student. The "Post School Activities" is where you describe what you have been doing since graduation.curiouscat wrote:I know I'm about twenty steps behind the rest of you guys, but I'm wondering if anyone can shed a little light on a minutiae-type question. I spoke to the admissions office about this to make sure I did it the way they wanted, and this is what they told me. You might want to just call tomorrow to make sure.

I looked up my app for you. Either that attachment is a new option or I opted not to take it when I did my app.curiouscat wrote:I know I'm about twenty steps behind the rest of you guys, but I'm wondering if anyone can shed a little light on a minutiae-type question. What I did was just list all my ECs in question a, then in (b) I listed everything I did while pursuing a degree, finally in (c) I listed the things I did in between degrees. I really didn't like doing it that way because it wasn't chronological and it bothered me. If I were to do it again, I probably would have chosen to interpret (b) solely as work done while in UG, but my thinking at the time was that I wanted to stress that I worked full-time while doing my Masters and PhD programs and thus they belonged in (b) in evaluative terms. I guess its really neither here nor there and the fact that I feel differently now probably just speaks to how little it really mattered. Just go with what makes most sense to you in the moment. Make sure its logical and consistent (and not redundant) and it will be fine, no matter what you choose to do. If you've been out for a significant time, I'd probably add the addendum where I would put my descriptions of what I had been doing (bullet points) and then would just list them in the a/b/c sections where logical.
I did attach a one-page resume to mine as well in the optional space. I just listed my educational degrees, then stripped out the descriptions from my work experience since they were already listed in the a/b/c sections, and put a few of the best awards, along a few interesting facts about me that weren't covered in my PS or didn't fit nicely into the questions or awards sections in the app. Don't know if this is helpful to you in anyway, but I hope so. I considered it like a "greatest hits" executive summary at the closing. Not necessary but if you were uncomfortable that your peculiarities made the rest a tad confusing, you could run that option.

Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Originally, there was no post-school section; it was called "Academic Interruption" and was very confusing. I did it wrong and put everything into Activities and Work. After some people mentioned it on TLS, I called the office and they clarified that post-school stuff was supposed to be in a different section. So I updated my file (and actually subsequently did miniupdates FIVE MORE TIMES, not by choice) and got in a week and a half ago.
moral of the story: just update the file if it's going to bother you.

Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Thanks, guys. I'll stick my post-graduation work in that Post-school Activities addendum, then. Just wanted to double check that - I was kind of confused because I couldn't remember that post-school thing from before. And MoC, I think this is the one time I'd say I'm lucky not to have a resume as impressive as yours - it makes the layout so much simpler.
