Congratulations! Hopefully they'll admit a bunch of people today. Do you recall what date you applied?citykitty wrote:I got a phone call today letting me know I'm in. I went RD. I am in utter shock.

3.97/172 just applied. No Why UVA, so I'm just hoping to avoid YP...then again I have zero softs, so maybe I should be more concerned about getting WLed for real...

If you dont mind me asking, are you URM or have great softs or think you wrote a killer Why UVA/PS ?
I applied ED in early sept with almost identical stats and got waitlisted
Congrats again on the fantastic news!

Perhaps a silly question, but what are people using as the title of their "Why Virginia" essay?

I didn't write a Why V? essay. I'm not URM. I am a non-trad with an interesting background, although I don't have any great softs (no real WE, didn't write a novel, volunteer for TFA, olympic athlete, nothing like that). The Dean said that the adcom loved my background and would love to have me. She also mentioned that my UG record was a bit of a hurdle. It probably helps that I have some distance between the grades that bring my LSAC GPA down and my GPA at my degree granting institution is a 4.0.

It's weird, if you look on LSN, there were a bunch of auto-admit RD applicants admitted almost three weeks ago with $$$, citykitty today, and that's it.icedflames wrote:Any other RD applicants hear back recently?
You'd think if they were calling a bunch of people today, at least one or two more would have posted on TLS or LSN. Perhaps they just really liked citykitty and made an exception for her.

They liked my PS. I'm shocked that the PS made that much of a difference TBH. I just got a phone call and the Dean of Admissions said a package is being mailed. I checked yes for asking for aid, but I didn't write a Why V essay.

Wow. I am really surprised, but maybe soft factors make more difference than we think?? So confusing! And I thought it was all numbers based!

Nope. This confuses me as much as it does everyone else. Truly. I really thought UVA was quite a reach for me and was thinking I might get in off the waitlist at best. I don't know what else to say. I thought it was all numbers too, but my PS really made a huge difference in this case.freestallion wrote:Wow. I am really surprised, but maybe soft factors make more difference than we think?? What was your PS on, if I may ask? Either way, don't speculate too much and just enjoy it. Congrats and you now have an awesome acceptance. Also shows us that it is totally worth applying to reaches since you never know what might happen!citykitty wrote:Nope. This confuses me as much as it does everyone else. Truly. It was just about me and the path I've traveled as an adult. Like I said, I don't have any great softs, but I have an interesting story. They liked it.

Congrats. I'm only 24 but I feel like I have kind of an "interesting path" story behind me that people always like so I'm hoping that helps me too Enjoy UVA!

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I'm in the 2.9 range with a 170, but I'm still in undergrad. I was planning on taking time off to get some WE, improve my GPA, improve my LSAT, and be a part of the real world for a bit, but the school I want to end up is Virginia. I figured since I was at median LSAT I shouldn't even bother. But this news has me thinking should I? Thoughts?
edit: I see they have a re-applicant status section on their app. Would it hurt me to apply, probably get denied, and apply again in a year or two with better stats?

Once you graduate with your first BA, you can not change your GPA. Just beware. LSAT won't count a second degree or random post-grad CC classes or what not.Dr. Filth wrote:I'm in the 2.9 range with a 170, but I'm still in undergrad.
