Other than possibly losing out on the chance to get in this year, I don't see much to lose by mentioning that.Dr. Filth wrote:Would this actually be a good idea? I applied late... really late... like day of the deadline late. I know that that crippled my odds of having a good cycle. Oh well, maybe I'll retake and reapply

Are you ED at UVA? Do they know you're really serious about attending? They've been serious about yield protection in the past and might really think you're going to go elsewhere.Indebted wrote:I applied late... really late... like day of the deadline late. Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I applied too late to ED. But two days ago, I reiterated that if admitted, I would attend. I made the same declaration in my initial Why UVA and again in my first LOCI. This experience makes me hesitant to reapply next year. They've made several offers off the WL this year and still don't want me, so I don't know why re-applying in 4 months with an otherwise identical app would make difference.

People who applied earlier with identical numbers have had much better results

I'm in almost the exact same boat, only slightly lower. 177/3.2. I also applied in January and feel like I didn't really get a fair shake at the admissions process. 10k from GWU is the best I have now, but I'm on loads of T14 wait lists. Fingers crossed for UVA/Mich/NYU. UVA is my top choice for location reasons, though.Indebted wrote:I applied too late to ED. But two days ago, I reiterated that if admitted, I would attend. Working on it as we speak. I wouldn't mind GWU, but they are not very generous with the scholarship. Especially so late in the cycle. I should note that my assigned Financial Aid officer has not replied to multiple e-mails or voicemails, so I'm now working directly with the department itself.Blumpbeef wrote:You can get way more from gwuatj86 wrote:I'm in almost the exact same boat, only slightly lower. 177/3.2. Agreed. I was awarded 25k/year on April 13th. So it's possible. (I withdrew so that money went back in the pot).Blumpbeef wrote:You can get way more from gwuatj86 wrote:I'm in almost the exact same boat, only slightly lower. 177/3.2. Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Schools are going to be even more cautious about yield at this stage of the game. Medians are at stake, time is now a factor and schools just can't afford to make offers to people who might go elsewhere. I think schools may also be aware that the smaller applicant pool will lead to more waitlist action and an increased chance of one of their admits getting poached. If I'm an adcom at uva and I see a splitter with a 180 I'd be really concerned that he's going to get off the nyu wait list and head to the village instead

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Well you shouldn't. Everyone I've spoken to in LS admissions has told me there is a significant advantage to applying before winter break, because that's when they get a flood of applicants. Submitting your app in November can yield entirely different results than submitting in January, both regarding decision and $. If you applied in January or later, and have underperformed your numbers, reapply next fall.Blumpbeef wrote:I feel exactly the same way.Indebted wrote:I applied too late to ED. I'm not seeing a lot of waitlist action at this point. Mich is only pulling ~10 people off their list this week. Seems all they want is URM, though. 152/3.6 got in yesterday.Mr. Somebody wrote:Schools are going to be even more cautious about yield at this stage of the game. It doesn't explain why I'm getting cold shouldered on waitlists though.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I get the impression they do try to create a diverse student body. As I understand it, there's been an increasing focus on work experience and other factors to differentiate candidates. That stuff might get looked at more as they fill the last few spots.Indebted wrote:I applied too late to ED. But two days ago, I reiterated that if admitted, I would attend. Your 180, while fantastic, isn't going to change the median. However, applying in the fall, it should be an easy decision for them.

You're conveniently forgetting the 2.8 non-URM who got inLiquox wrote:hate to be a downer, but for the sake of not flooding dugas and faulk's mailboxes, i just want to point out that the numbers of the two who got in after emails (170/3.6 and 172/3.4) are similar to those of us who got in during the cycle. not sure why they weren't admitted with the rest of us, but admissions seems to be fixing that.
