Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Is there any point in doing this now? I was under the impression there was no WL movement until after the deposit deadline. Full disclosure: I'm another November ED WL'er.so_fetch wrote:I think you should send a LOCI including wording referring back to how it was your first choice before, it still is your first choice. If you do not know what a LOCI is, look on the personal statements (I believe?) part of TLS (and I don't mean the forum I mean just the site itself.) good luck!DWinter18 wrote:I haven't posted in this thread before, but I ED UVA on 11/13 I believe it was. Heard back 2 days later and was waitlisted... Which I found strange. If they were going to reply so quickly, you'd think it'd be a yes or no, not a "maybe." I got into Georgetown since so I'm not too mad, but now I'm expected to wait until May before I hear back from UVA? Is it advisable to send them an email basically saying, "Look, I got into other schools I would love to go to, but if you guys accept me now I'll attend. Otherwise I'll withdraw." Or is that too bold?

In via phone call, plus $60,000 over 3 years. I was pretty shocked, actually; I've been complete since late October, so don't give up hope if you think you're destined for the WL.

haha I am happy for each and every person who has been accepted.... but I am not gonna lie I was really down with the high gpa / low lsat trend hopefully they have not completely abandoned those of us who meet this criteriaaddy11 wrote:I am encouraged by this. Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I have a bit of a noobish question and this is probably the wrong place to ask it...but why don't people actually say their stats? Why not just say, "173/3.67" or whatever it is? And people will notate their GPA very generally: 3.8x, et cetera. I see lots of people do this, not just you, but I've just finally gotten curious.acadec wrote:LSAT over 170, GPA under 3.7so_fetch wrote:Awesome! and... congrats!! thanks for bringing us hope. Why don't people put their actual numbers out there? How could it possibly hurt me to have TLSers know my score and GPA?

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Some of these threads are read by adcomms, so some folks like to maintain more anonymity if they're worried about being outed. That and some people just don't like sharing GPAs/LSATs for the same reasons people don't usually share their grades/salaries/etc. with strangers.hcsmith18 wrote:I have a bit of a noobish question and this is probably the wrong place to ask it...but why don't people actually say their stats? Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
It's an online forum. As much as you'd like to think you know who you're talking to, you don't. Admissions officers have been known to lurk/post on TLS, and if you have too much information that is potentially revelatory, you risk being identified. It might not matter to some people, but I think that others would prefer to maintain some semblance of anonymity. Slightly fudging stats helps with that. Plus, even if you were talking to friends, it's not like you'd necessarily want everyone you know (or even some of people you know) to be all in your law school business.hcsmith18 wrote:Why don't people put their actual numbers out there? That's just my take, but I'm sure more seasoned posters might be able to offer more cogent reasons.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
On the off chance that an adcomm is lurking and you get outed, maybe a little paranoid, but no one ever accused us TLSers of being laid back as a grouphcsmith18 wrote:I have a bit of a noobish question and this is probably the wrong place to ask it...but why don't people actually say their stats? Ah okay thanks! I can't imagine adcomms having nothing better to do than trawl TLS, but you never know...maybe some of them have neurotically developed some unhealthy obsession with matching TLS profiles to applications, then accepting or rejecting people based on cuteness of avatar or something.
Such that I'm at least minorly contributing to this thread: LSAT over 175, GPA 3.9x, submitted 11/12. I'll be surprised if I don't get in, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Did you write a Why UVA? I would not be surprised if you were a YP candidate. They are weird anyway about RD out of state people let alone those with really great stats who will probably get into many higher-ranked schools. since you said you are a "noob" I will tell you YP means the school would practice "yield protection" - they don't let you in cause they think you will not attend and just hurt their accepted offer percentagehcsmith18 wrote:Ah okay thanks! Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I didn't write a Why VA--I don't remember there being a place to upload one on the application? Maybe there was. At any rate, a Why VA I wrote would just be cliche and bad. I'm from the South and I suppose I could argue for some sort of cultural identity, but it'd be super weak.so_fetch wrote:Did you write a Why UVA? I would not be surprised if you were a YP candidate. They might be right--I got into Harvard already, and it would take some serious $$$ at Virginia for me to give that up. Still, yield protection is lame, man.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
