Also, we learned about property through LOTR analogies.

Now I'm just picturing Chicago as this juggling fun house where all my professors will explain law to me through my favorite pop cultural references (+ rigor, of course).

Just add in almost daily lunches, insane amounts of e-mail through the school's listserv, and muggings in the main quadrangle and you won't be too far from the truth.

Is anyone sending in a Why Chicago essay? Instructions say not to send a DS, so I feel a Why essay would be even less wanted by them. Moreover, there is no place in the app to attach a Why essay.

most people say no, but Xifeng said that if you get waitlisted or whatever, then sending one as a LOCI isn't a bad idea

"May I submit a diversity statement or “Why Chicago” essay?

You may, but please do so only when they are important to your application. Remember that you are trying to be concise and genuine."

from : http://www.law.uchicago.edu/prospective ... lstatement

Where did it say not to send a DS? Did I make a mistake?

Thanks, that website has changed. Earlier it said "We do not ask for a diversity statement or additional essays because we believe that the personal statement is an appropriate place for you discuss any aspects of your background (e.g., racial, ethnic, or religious identification, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation) that you think are relevant to your application. If you find that you absolutely cannot convey the necessary information in your personal statement, you may submit an additional statement."

Someone told me the above is code for Don't Send a DS.

Now I am confused by the new webpage language.

You could email them and say, "Look, I want to talk about XYZ and it doesn't fit in with what I'm saying in my personal statement. Would that be okay for a diversity statement?"

I think it sounds like the new guidelines suggest that they're open to some, but don't want you to write an extra essay just because you feel you should (UVA, Penn, Michigan, etc.). If you want to PM me what you were thinking about, feel free.

I wrote a Why Chicago statement. I think I had decent reasons (academic and personal) for doing so, but it's probably best not to write one in the absence of specific reasons.

Just got the complete email! It mentioned that I shouldn't add anything to my file from this point on but before I submitted I called to ask if I could add a third letter after submitting and was told that was fine. Hope that's still the case.
