I've also got one of those. Mine's a little quirky because I was a non-traditional applicant, but it's 2 pages full of choice items that are tailored to the 'Chicago: life of the mind' theme.Bildungsroman wrote:Good luck, everyone. Anyway, I want to strongly advise against taking the LSAT for the first time in December. That was the biggest mistake of my admissions cycle. First, it would have been very valuable to have been able to take more than one crack at it, especially since I didn't take a class or do any simulated tests. Second, if you take the LSAT in December, you don't get the score until the beginning of January. So your app won't be complete until sometime in January (and they don't review them until they're complete). Since they review the apps in groups based on completion, all Jan and Feb completes got reviewed in one group, and it was a total blood bath. I don't know anyone who reported getting an acceptance. They were turning down people who got into Yale, Hamiltons at Columbia, etc. Also, U of C seems to be pretty generous with financial aid if you get your app in early.

I'm going to need this if I'm lucky enough to get waitlisted. Here's to decreased applicants without parallel decreases in class sizes!Lisi wrote:Bildungsroman wrote:Good luck, everyone. I'll be around if anyone needs advice on writing a LOCI that's desperate enough to work.

Re: Chicago c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I'm not obsessively checking my status checker or anything (sigh)....but I noticed that my recommendation letters showed up in the appropriate box today. It still doesn't say pending decision/review or whatever that the UVA one did, but its a change since it went complete.
Does anyone know if we can expect more "soft" interview calls? I thought only Harvard did them, but now that my first app ended up having one, I am wondering if more of the schools do this than I previously thought. I know they like to call if there is good news, but does Chicago ever soft interview people too? Do we need to be prepared for a lot of these conversations?

I haven't heard of any, but that doesn't mean they don't happen. Would you mind sharing which school surprised you with the soft interview? I don't think that's a terribly common practice among top schools.

Re: Chicago c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
UVA has called several people this year for soft interviews. So far, it sounds all were admitted within a week of the initial interview. Some were asked Why UVA questions even as ED candidates. Mine was soft, and I addressed those issues in my PS so I didn't have anything but friendly questions. Still I prepared with some Prof names and what not, just in case. It got me thinking though that maybe I should be prepared for these to happen at other schools.

I haven't heard of Chicago doing any admissions interviews in the past couple of years.
