Re: Harvard 2012 applicants (class of 2015)
Anyone have any guesses as to when more KB1s might come out (or if, for someone who's been UR since 10/13, I should give up hope of getting one?) Thought I would probably get one with a 174/Above Average (intl grading system, no numbers and it was just listed as that on my LSAC CAS report), submitted a few days after application opened and have been UR for almost a month!

Hmm...I don't know if "above average" /174 can be guaranteed. If it was "superior" then maybe. How do the work anyway? I've always thought that they corresponded to 3.6-3.8 and 3.8+, respectively.
That said, more interviews will probably come out Monday because last week she scheduled all the interviews for this week? I was UR as of 10/13 too so I haven't given up hope yet

not sure what your softs are, but I know 2 internationals (I am one of them) who get 174/superior and no interview yet.pineappledazzler wrote:Anyone have any guesses as to when more KB1s might come out (or if, for someone who's been UR since 10/13, I should give up hope of getting one?) +1, I think the top schools generally only like superior. You might be fighting a bit of an uphill battle with the above average.Curious1 wrote:pineappledazzler wrote:Anyone have any guesses as to when more KB1s might come out (or if, for someone who's been UR since 10/13, I should give up hope of getting one?) While this has been true in the past, not being picky with international GPA ratings (which don't count in median GPA calculations) might be one way top schools will protect their medians this year.Hawkeye Pierce wrote:I think the top schools generally only like superior. Re: Harvard 2012 applicants (class of 2015)
hmm I didn't know that. I thought they all treated AA as their median GPA and just focused on LSAT more and also LORs/softs. Since other 174/Superiors didn't have KB1's yet, maybe they're holding off on international for a bit (or maybe I'm just not getting one!)
I couldn't be given a Superior because I don't have any grades yet, we only get grades for our final exams (which I have yet to take), so they just assigned me Above Average on CAS because they literally had nothing to go on other than my LORs and what my professors thought it should be (and at Cambridge, "Above Average" is pretty much all they'll ever think of you, because a Superior probably requires you to be a god).
Ah well, we'll see!

I feel ya on the American vs British use of superlatives. I was very worried about asking one of my master's profs for an LOR for this reason. I had been told it was a bad idea, because a British prof will think saying, "This student is very capable and above average in most ways" is a glowing recommendation, whereas an American prof who thinks the equivalent would write "The student is absolutely exceptional and one of the best students I've had the pleasure of instructing."pineappledazzler wrote:hmm I didn't know that. I wouldn't worry too much about how it will effect your cycle then. The truth is, Cambridge will give you the same leg up as an Ivy UG, and I do believe it is generally harder to get in as an international candidate because they only let in a few. So it is reasonable to assume they may like to wait a little to see all the options before settling. You might be in for a long haul, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be bad news.

Exactly - at Cambridge, saying a student is above average is like Christmas coming early! But I'm doing my whole UG here so don't really have a choice. I'm not a "true" international though either because I'm from the US, but then again I guess for all intents and purposes my app will be treated like one, so I might be in for a wait like you said.

I don't mean to be too personal, but I'm assuming you're expecting a First? If so, does anything on your report suggest that you're likely to get a First? I suppose a 2.1 is more or less average, so you should be set grades-wise. In any case, a lot of these top schools ought to be familiar with the British UG grading system, so if your marks thus far suggest a First, I think you'll be in a good position.pineappledazzler wrote:Exactly - at Cambridge, saying a student is above average is like Christmas coming early! I did some graduate work in the UK, and while most of my UG friends knew where they stood, I'm not sure if there was a way of formalizing this at my college. Would be interesting to see the report Cambridge sent to LSAC.

Mine was received on 10/30 and complete on 10/31 and then UR on 11/9. For those of you who received interviews, how many days were there between UR and receiving notification of a KB1?cleareyesfullheart wrote:How long did it take you all to go from received to complete? I thought with Harvard apps you get a complete notification after your apps goes under review. I thought with them 'complete' meant 'we have looked through your app'

Maybe that's the case for some, I'm not sure. I just know that my status checker definitely said "File Complete" and now it says "Application Under Review."Justdoingmybest wrote:thelawschoolproject wrote:Mine was received on 10/30 and complete on 10/31 and then UR on 11/9. I think it's different for different people, but for me:Justdoingmybest wrote:thelawschoolproject wrote:Mine was received on 10/30 and complete on 10/31 and then UR on 11/9. Submitted 10/27, Complete 10/28, went UR 11/2, and got a complete email on 11/10.
My complete email came after my UR, but I was actually complete before UR. Don't think this means anything though.

So do pre-Thanksgiving KB1s have better odds than post-Thanksgiving KB1s of getting in? I keep going back and forth between being really excited and worried that I'm getting my hopes way up and will get disappointed :/

From what I heard, last year, every single person who got a pre-Thanksgiving JR1 got a JR2.

Not quite correct (at least as of the first batch of JR2s), though I do like the odds:soj wrote:From what I heard, last year, every single person who got a pre-Thanksgiving JR1 got a JR2.

See the first post in the thread. If I'm interpreting his numbers correctly, 4/4 URM went from JR1 to JR2 and 16/18 non-URM did (with 5 additional non-URM having incomplete data).

This is right - LSN bears out the same pattern.AspiringAcademic wrote:Not quite correct (at least as of the first batch of JR2s), though I do like the odds:soj wrote:From what I heard, last year, every single person who got a pre-Thanksgiving JR1 got a JR2.

What is notable is that it does seem all eventually got in, but some didn't get JR2s with the pre-Thanksgiving crowd. A minority, but a few didn't get a JR2 nod until Jan-Feb of the next year.

Hmmm I wonder why certain people were kept waiting until Jan-Feb? But that's good news that they all got in! I noticed that in 2009, there were significantly more JR1/no-Jr2s, probably because applications went up significantly that year, whereas last year applications dropped for the first time.

Can we get an idea of how many URMs have had KB1 invites thus far? I can just think of MyLegendLives and myself. Is there anyone else?
