Waitlist News
I am writing today to give an update on the waitlist. So far this admissions cycle Penn State Law has seen an unprecedented response to our initial offers. We currently have significantly more deposits than we did this time last year and the class is pretty full. We are crunching the numbers to estimate our "melt" over the summer and awaiting deposits from the last few offers we made during the initial review period. Those deposits have a postmark deadline of May 2. (There are a handful of files still incomplete, but not enough to impact our forward progress.) By the end of that first week of May I expect to begin making some offers to waitlist candidates we feel can fill any gaps in the class or help us meet institutional goals.
Given the status of the applicant pool our waitlist is too heavy. To be fair to our waitlisted candidates I expect later this week to release a significant number of the files we currently have on the waitlist. Unfortunately, there are some of those applicants we know will be disappointed that their shot at Penn State is over for this cycle. I regret that we are unable to make a space in the class for every applicant we believe could succeed here. Unfortunately, that is the reality.
I don't provide this information to stress people out but to manage expectations. I don't want applicants to feel blind-sided. In this case no news is "good" news. If we don't send you an email and your online status remains unchanged it means your file is still active and potentially under consideration for a spot. Keep in mind that offers from the waitlist are made throughout the summer and up until the first day of classes. If you remain on the waitlist and we remain a top choice for you, please keep in touch and update your file appropriately.

I'm not an applicant to Penn State, but after viewing this, maybe I should have been.
Thumbs up to admissions transparency and keeping folks up to date!

This, except that I had no interest in Penn State. Still, a very nice gesture especially given the lack of transparency coming out of certain admissions offices this year... particularly ones keeping folks under review for 4-5 months.ihp12 wrote:I'm not an applicant to Penn State, but after viewing this, maybe I should have been.

Re: Waitlist News
If we have not been released from the wait list by now does it mean that we have made it through the first wave of wait list cuts?
