Re: Harvard Waitlist 2011
I'm pretty sure (just a hunch) that unlike last year, they have no intention of letting people off the wait list (rejecting them) in waves. Instead it looks like they probably just pick from preferred candidates when spots open up and let everyone else drop off the wait list their self and will eventually just reject everyone.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2011
So I took the plunge and emailed them, this may be of interest to some people...
"Thank you for your email. The incoming class is currently full; however, the waitlist will remain active until classes begin in September. If there are updates, our office will notify applicants on the waitlist immediately. Due to the unpredictable nature of any waitlist, we are unable to determine if any spots in the class will open prior to the start of classes. Please let our office know if you have any questions. Thank you!"

Judging by law schools numbers, that's a no. Well at least when I looked a week and a half ago. Good luck to those of you willing to wait.

I think your phone call might have prompted them to movement.traum wrote:So I took the plunge and emailed them, this may be of interest to some people...

Email cut
Didn't send a LOCI though, so it's expected.
Good luck to everyone! I hope you get into your #1 like I did!

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2011
Did anyone's rejection contain an invitation to submit a transfer application next year?
Do all WL rejections emails include that?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2011
Wait a sec. Does this mean that might give some level of 'preference' to those on the previous cycle's W/L if they wish to transfer?
I thought 2L transfers were strictly based on 1L grads, recommendations, acquired experiences, personal circumstances, etc. and independent of GPA/LSAT (ie. 1L admission criteria)?
Can someone please copy & paste the exact text about transfers? Thanks!

They give no preference to previously WLed candidates. It's a stock email that reminds you that you can always transfer. The factors you mention are far more above than the fluffy icing they put on your rejection cake.justbubbles wrote:Wait a sec. Fwiw, I heard someone (friend of a friend) was admitted a few weeks back. Not that this has any predictive power since the class is full till it isn't anymore, but people have been getting off here and there.

FYI, I was outright rejected as a 0L and still got in as a transfer. They don't appear to consider your 1L app or GPA/LSAT at all. The E-mail is just encouraging you to transfer, which is good for them because if more people apply it gives them a larger pool to pick from. It doesn't mean that they're going to give you a preference over people who weren't WL'd.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2011
A prof from Yale Law came to speak at my UG campus last year and said exactly ^this. A transfer decision will likely be based 90% from 1L grades and maybe 10% from a LOR from one of your 1L profs. Because they don't have to report the uGPA/LSAT of transfer students, it doesn't mess with their precious US News Ranking. So they basically just look at your potential to get a job at graduation... aka your 1L grades.vanwinkle wrote: They don't appear to consider your 1L app or GPA/LSAT at all.

Finally got cut from the HLS waitlist today...same garbage about transferring. If I do well enough to transfer to HLS 1L, I might as well just stay at NYU.

Did anyone else get an email asking if they would still be willing to take a spot if one became available?
