if they haven't made up their mind yet, then what...

I've been under review at some places for close to six months now. Others even longer. What are they waiting for? Does anybody know what could tip the scales in either direction? I assume admissions is unlikely, but then what is the hold up? One place (coughcoughUCLA) has even promised a decision before the end of the month, which means their response rate to the first deposit isn't having anything to do with it.... GRRR! :x

They are trying to up their medians, protect their yield, and get the class size they want.

They also realize that they don't really have much of an obligation to applicants so they take as much time as they damn well please in trying to get the highest medians possible and all that other jazz they want.

When I was applying to UCLA for UG they didn't give me a response until mid-May. And after I was accepted, the communications were still so slow that I was tempted to start investing in carrier pigeons to speed up the process.

Law school admissions may be a different beast altogether, but I know from experience that people there like to take their sweet ass time.
