I am not on PR either :( But i spoke to someone in the admissions office. They said the Dean is working on an email that will being going out to all the people on the waitlist, updating us and givings us some new link that we can obsess over instead of our inboxes; it will give us more frequent updates. Guess they're tired of the phone calls at this point.

Here's hoping for my first update to be that I got in!

It's about time they did this! They should have expected a bunch of phone calls since they haven't been providing any guidance to those of us on the WL. Curious as to just how large it is.

I got the email as well. Working on my "where you are in your process of choosing a law school and your level of interest in the possibility of attending Duke" letter right now. Here's hoping I get scooped up in the handful. :)

Are you planning on replying directly to the email (the admissions director) or to the general admissions email?

I just replied directly to the email and addressed it to Mr. Hill.

do folks plan on naming other schools that are under their consideration and then saying Duke is their first choice, or just affirming the latter from the get-go?

i.e., is it recommended to get specific or just keep it general and duke-centric?

Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask during the phone interview?

I just said "another law school" or whatever. I can't really think of any reason to name another school. I can't really articulate any reason why it would be a bad idea, it just seems risky or in poor taste or something to me.

Thanks, I agree! Just wasn't sure what kind of etiquette there was.

I am also planning to replying directly to the email. I am actually naming the school. but i guess that is a degree of candor I'm comfortable with. i honestly don't think they care whether you name names or don't. They just want to know how diehard you are about going to Duke.

Like IndigoPoet said, I don't really think it matters...I'm personally not comfortable with naming the school, but that's just me. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules here.

Here's a quote from last year's thread:
DallasCowboy wrote:
It seems like the best way to move from PR to being accepted is to turn in a Why Duke? if you haven't already. Last year someone was put on PR in February, wrote a LOCI and was accepted a day or so later. So a lot of the time they are just looking for genuine interest.
I think the advice still applies for this year. My LOCI was basically a Why Duke, and I guess it helped!

also

"Fall-starting JD candidates: We believe that we will be able to make a handful of additional offers of admission in the next few weeks, following a round of telephone interviews. If you haven't recently contacted us regarding your interest in attending Duke, we invite you to do so soon. (May 20, 2011)"

There's still hope!!

So I had (coincidentally) just sent another LOCI on Wednesday (never got confirmation as it went right to the Dean and I forgot to include the general email -- oops). Anyway, I called today to confirm receipt. He was busy, but they said they would bring it to his attention, but....What do I do now? I can't very well send ANOTHER loci. Should I just call him Monday if he hasn't responded to me and just tell him that I want to go to freakin' Duke? (as if it wasn't clear enough by now!)

Interview email? Do you mean the one that went out to WL-ers today saying they'll make decisions about the WL after doing phone interviews?

I'd just send it to the general address when you get a chance.

When you say the Dean, do you mean Mark Hill?

I think fingersxd meant Dean Hoye. Don't worry, Duke admission is one of the most efficient ones, everything is going to be just fine. and good luck!
