U.S. News Law School Rankings
Are the new rankings deterring anyone from accepting admission from a school they were considering?

I cannot answer your question. Those accepted to Marquette & Michigan State, however, are probably more likely to attend since both moved from the third tier into the second tier. Marquette has a new law school building, while Michigan State offers very generous scholarships.
Texas acceptees also have reason to matriculate with a bit more confidence in their decision.
Temple may attract many Villanova acceptees as Villanova lost 17 places to 84th, while cross-town law school rival Temple advanced to #61. Also in Pennsylvania, Penn State made impressive gains in the rankings which may affect some Villanova acceptees.

Conversely, I think it might be more the case that certain schools' rising in the rankings is encouraging people to admit, a la those flocking to IUB and UC Davis.

If people are making a decision based solely on ranking, then they are probably idiots (not that the OP is suggesting people are doing that). When looking at schools outside of the T14, you kind of have to look at the job markets around the area and how X school places there. The rankings outside of the T14 are so volatile anyway that making a decision based on that is very short-minded in my opinion.
As for Villanova, they took a blow based on the entire controversy but I actually have a little more respect for the school and the dean now. I'm working under the assumption that nearly every school gets a little "creative" with their numbers, but Villanova has been the only one to come out and admit it.

Villanova remains ahead of Temple and Penn State in the NLJ 250 ranking which came out on February 28, 2011. Top 40.CanadianWolf wrote:I cannot answer your question. Plus, since you are not a 0L making a decision to attend law school you should have left your post to the above referenced portion.

I was planning on going to NYU under the assumption they would leapfrog CC and move into a tie with S. At this point I'm at a loss. Definitely considering just packing it in...
