My ex just got got a call from a top-30 school offering him acceptance and scholarship money. The problem is he didn't actually apply. Anybody hear of this happening?!?

Uh...this is not possible. At all. If someone called then they obviously thought it would be funny to troll your boyfriend.

You're either lying to us, or your ex is lying to you. I can't think of a reason any school, much less a top-30, would accept someone without an application to review, and then offer scholarship money on top of that.kmap wrote:My ex just got got a call from a top-30 school offering him acceptance and scholarship money. It's a numbers game, but it's not THAT much of a numbers game.
Edit: or yeah, somebody's lying to your ex. That too.

I had a T4 school spam me like this before with a full scholly during my app cycle. Never applied or intended to. They wouldn't stop even after request. Had to eventually send a very straight forward email stating already attending another school. So it is possible.. just unlikely from a T30.

Yeah, but that's because they're a T4 and the legitimacy of their program is on par with the Nigerian princes.ogman05 wrote:I had a T4 school spam me like this before with a full scholly during my app cycle. He's not lying and I'm not lying. He's going to call them back today and see what's up. We'll get to the bottom of this!

As an actual Nigerian Prince, I take offense to that.

WHICH t30? I don't see why there would be any reason to keep that anonymous.
Though unless the call went "son, as the president of XXX, I've decided to offer you admission, with a scholarship, despite the fact that you were so rude as to not even apply to my school. now clean your room."

Other than T4 schools, W&L is the only school that sends me multiple emails and snail mail every week. A few days ago I opened my mail box to find three separate letters from them. They may as well sent them all in one envelope at that rate.

During the class of 2012's cycle, they went on a binge in April/May and basically solicited high lsats with offers of big money.

The bigger question here is: why are you still talking to your ex?

Haha, I don't see this happening. Unless it's Regent Law, but that's not a top 30.

Re: In without applying?!?
It just doesn't make sense. More people apply than are accepted. Why would they go out of there way for someone who didn't apply and all they know about the person is the LSAT and GPA? They might say that you are qualified for scholarship money with your scores, but I don't think they would say "You're Accepted. Oh, and we know nothing about you but we'll also give you $10,000."crossingforHYS wrote:it is possible actually,Spack wrote:Uh...this is not possible. At all. Re: In without applying?!?
It really doesn't, at ALL. If it was normal I would have expected to hear about it from people who have a 180 LSAT and a 4.0 GPA. I think it's likely that someone called to recruit him and said something along the lines of "If you apply and are accepted (and you have a high chance of being accepted), then you will be eligible for a full-tuition scholarship". Not, "Hi, you haven't applied to our school, we know nothing about you except for your GPA and LSAT score but we REALLY want you to come to our school. You're accepted with a scholarship even! Bye"edubs003 wrote:It just doesn't make sense. More people apply than are accepted.
