Wait list rules

Post by noshaz » Wed Jul 21, 2010 3:37 pm

Does anyone know how many people are on the wait list? Also, how they choose from the wait list?

I am new to TLS and don't know if you already have talked about it or not.

This is probably a question for the admissions office at the school you're WL'd at.

There are separate questions there that have separate answers.

Does anyone know how many people are on the wait list?

It varies by school. Some schools keep insanely large waitlists, and some schools keep much smaller ones.

Also, how they choose from the wait list?

Generally, people on TLS assume it works something like this: The pool is diverse and includes folks of various attributes (high LSAT score, high GPA, URMs, folks with lots of WE or good softs). If enough people withdraw to go to other schools during the summer, and they end up needing more high-LSAT folks to bolster their LSAT median, then they'll take high-LSAT folks off the WL. If enough people with high GPAs withdraw, they'll start taking high-GPA folks.

It just depends on what the school needs and when. If you're on the waitlist, it's for one or more reasons; you have to hope that one of those reasons becomes something they actually need. However, they've probably got a whole bunch of people waiting to cover each category, and even if they need someone like you, it might not actually be you that gets the call next. A lot of people encourage you to keep in touch with your school while you're WL'd through LOCIs and updates of what you're doing during the summer, because if you can keep yourself in their minds (positively) while you're waiting, you're more likely to be the one they think of when they need somebody.

As a start, I hope that helps.
