It's 0L and it means somebody an incoming law student (as opposed to 1L, 2L, 3L designations for actual law students).

Law students are referred to by the year they are in law school. So a 1L is a first year student, a 2L is a 2nd year student, and a 3L is a third year. People call themselves 0L's to mean that they are not yet in law school.

OL stands for the Lineman, whom like DL players do all the serious work in football and get no credit.
Only time you hear about them is when they get "flagged" for holding

Sorry could not resist as a former player and current 0L

0L =/= prelaw

0L means you've been admitted, but haven't yet started. Prelaw refers to one who has interest in law school, but hasn't yet been admitted.

From what I've seen, TLS does not use 0L so strictly.

Pretty much anybody here who intends on going to law school and is somewhere in the process (including things like studying for the LSAT, prepping applications, waiting for responses, being already admitted, etc) has been referred to as a 0L.

The only people who intend on going to law school who are not referred to as 0L's seem to be those people who post saying "I just started UG and want to know blah blah blah."
