Waitlists this cycle

Post by IAFG » Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:45 pm

are they actually grimmer, with more over-enrollment at more schools this year, or is that just my bias?

It appears that you may be correct............ of course some schools may not apply to your analysis such as GULC and such.

Seems that way, but can we attribute that to more people double and triple depositing? If so, then hopefully more spots will open up, we'll just have to wait a bit longer. Man, I think I'm just bullshitting myself to extend my false sense of hope.

I think things are definitely grimmer this cycle. So many schools have had close to no movement thus far and other schools still have people on reserves and it's June 8th.... I am also a member of the delusion group and am hoping against hope that it is just a problem with double depositers. I guess only time will tell!

People are withdrawing at the last minute or not withdrawing at all. Also, people are paying multiple deposits for whatever reason(s). Yes, the waiting this cycle sucks. I've stopped deluding myself and have focused my energies on where I am going instead of where I could go.

However, while I am delusional to a certain extent, I'm also being reasonable about the whole process. Most schools accept some people off their wait lists each year, even if it's 5-10 people and in August, so while there might be a smaller chance of being accepted this cycle, there's an even smaller chance of all the schools I'm waiting for accepting zero people.

I'd imagine this cycle is harder than last cycle, but last cycle seemed to be very competitive with record numbers as well, and a lot of people got off wait lists, so ALL hope isn't lost. It's also fairly early in the wait list season.

I don't have the experience necessary to compare it to previous years, but this cycle is brutal!

Oh goodness! Yes, LSN graphs do tend to be grimmer this year than previous cycles, but I am hesitant to rely too heavily on self-reported data-- especially "WL, Accepted" since most users stop updating their profiles after the April/May decisions.

i meant, someone could theoretically compare proportions of waitlist movement compared to last year at this date, but it would be a pain in the ass and i definitely don't care to do so when baseless speculation is still an option

Some wait lists are moving. I've been accepted off of one so far, and another school said that there's a high probability they will be pulling people from the WL in late June.

My hopes are steadily declining. I have already sent the LOCI etc. but am now wondering when it is polite/not annoying to check back in with their admissions staff on movement. I don't see any on here or law school numbers, but who knows who is updating what, if anything, on that website.

Thoughts? Is one check in email or call bad form?
