See how much this particular plan will let you earn. A lot of schools if you earn more than like 50k wont let you do loan repayment..
The gov. plan isn't school specific, just income specific and it's around 52k a year. I'd really like to work for a non-profit, and their starting salaries are usually in the high 30's. Woot for being poor coming out of law school!

I actually just got pulled off of a wait list and I found a subletter for my apt. in Columbus in like twenty mins on TLS. Paperwork is already filled out!

There's no income ceiling. IBR monthly payments = 15% of (your SALARY - 150% of FederalPovertyLevel)/12.

You qualify for IBR only in cases where the above formula gives you a figure smaller than your standard 10-year repayment plan.

As you make more money, IBR gets a little less beneficial. But you can still qualify at $100,000 or more, depending on your debt (b/c debt would determine what your standard payment plan looks like).

Meanwhile, I'm getting less and less interested in sending LOCI #2 and giving up altogether. First was sent in early April. ... What's wrong with me?

Ah ok, I thought it was school specific.

I am going to send a new LOCI in a week or so, plus another LOR.

Release = a waitlist reject. Can strike me from the list too. They are trying to trim the list basically.

Yeah, it was a long shot. I would have gone there if they had accepted me (as I'm sure all of you would have), but I'm happy with where I am headed next year :)

Good luck to everyone else in this thread!

I kinda expected it; I had a pattern of being a competitive app with my numbers always ending up being just a bit too low for my softs to carry me at the very end. Would have been glad to go, but I'm happy with my alternative.

Good luck to those left standing.

I see nothing about there being no money for anyone taken off the list and accepted, well not in my email anyway. I mean it is a VERY optimistic email.

The e-mails stating there was no money available were sent to individuals who had sent updates for their files - not in this general mass waitlist e-mail. Things could I suppose be changing, as this notice does appear to be fairly optomistic, maybe they've had a large number of withdraws in the past week or so?!

My e-mail says
Over the last few weeks, we have made some offers of admission to wait-listed applicants to fill spaces in the entering class. Based on past experience, we anticipate that more spaces will become available before orientation begins on August 16.
Sounds about right. ... Also, says if I want I should keep 'em updated about my continued interest. Some students get off WL in Juy/August, etc., etc.

Maybe I'm just being cranky, but it's not much of an update.

Yay! I received the wait list update e-mail.

Here are the contents for those wondering:

Dear [Integrity]:

I write with a Vanderbilt wait list update.

Over the last few weeks, we have made some offers of admission to wait-listed applicants to fill spaces in the entering class. Based on past experience, we anticipate that more spaces will become available before orientation begins on August 16. Because vacancies occur only when admitted students who have paid deposits withdraw from the class, the number and timing of vacancies are unknown until they occur. Our best guess is that spaces will become available occasionally during the coming weeks, and we will act to fill them very quickly once they occur.

If you are serious about accepting an offer of admission to Vanderbilt, we ask that you continue to keep us informed of your interest going forward. Because we will require a quick response, you might wish to ready the questions you would have should you receive an offer of admission. You might also consider whether there is a date after which you could no longer realistically accept an offer from us in light of other commitments you have made or will make as the summer progresses. We will be glad to hear from you with updates about your circumstances or just to check in, and we will share any new information we have that might be helpful to you. We keep track of these contacts with our office, and they can play a helpful role when we must fill vacancies quickly.

In a typical admission season, some wait-list candidates receive offers of admission in July or August and join the first-year class at Vanderbilt. Although there are many uncertainties, keeping plans for the fall flexible and remaining open to the possibility of a spot becoming available helps to create the best circumstances for this to occur.

We appreciate your interest in Vanderbilt and your patience with the wait list process, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
G. Todd Morton

I am sorry to those who were released today. :( And congrats to those still hanging in there with me! :)

I also got the wait list update email- it sounded optimistic!! but then again, it didn't really say anything we all already didn't know. Also, congrats Robin!!!!!

I got the release today

Dear Matteliszt:

Thank you for keeping your application under consideration on our wait list. At this time, we have determined that we must release your application. With more wait-listed applicants remaining under consideration than usual, we think it wise to narrow the pool to be considerd (yep with typo) should space become available in our entering class. We have had to make many difficult decisions this year with 4,884 applicants competing for 195 places and in our entering class and with a larger wait list. We appreciate your patience with our process.

Thank you for our interest in Vanderbilt, and best wishes for yor (yep, with typo) education and career plans.

Sincerely,

G. Todd Morton
