Is Notre Dame Worth Sticker?
I plan on practicing in Chicago....so far dinged at NU and WL at Michigan. Assuming I don't get into Michigan is ND worth sticker? My other options are Loyola (Chicago) and Kent....I got a full ride at both. Please note: retaking LSAT and applying next year is not an option.

If you have the numbers to get waitlisted at Michigan, can't you get some scholarships from some T20-40s?

You would think so.....my numbers aren't too impressive. I have good softs (opened a business which was later purchased by a Fortune 500 company). I think the fact that I did well from a business aspect handicapped my scholarship money. I also received an acceptance from 2-T14's but I'm not interested in moving out of the midwest. I'll probably ride out the Michigan waitlist though.lawschooliseasy wrote:If you have the numbers to get waitlisted at Michigan, can't you get some scholarships from some T20-40s?

not interested in big law...might do it for a year or two to gain experience....mainly interested in public sector. I also have been out of undergrad for a few years with very unique work experiences.FunkyJD wrote:What are your career expectations?

Is 200K a sizeable chunk of money to you? Because ND is probably worth 200K, but not 200K in debt at 8% interest.clint4law wrote:You would think so.....my numbers aren't too impressive. Why exactly is taking a year and retaking not an option? I'm sure NU would love your W/E if you can get a 170.

Re: Is Notre Dame Worth Sticker?
ND is pretty much my cutoff for schools that are worth sticker (except for someone attending a state school that charges less than $15k/year). With that said, ND, like many of the schools in the 20's, was absolutely hammered this past year in OCI.
I would start writing the "I would unconditionally attend" if admitted LOCI to Michigan tonight.

200K is 200K...it is a sizeable chunk but I have the means to pay it. With respect to NU, I only applied to the AJD program and was rejected. i'm not interested in going to law school in my hometown for 3 years. To answer your question, I'm 31 and at this point time is of the essence.Desert Fox wrote:Is 200K a sizeable chunk of money to you? With Income Based Repayment of federal loans debt means less. If you are serious about the public sector, then go for it. If public service is your goal, I wouldn't pay a cent of your own money, take it all in grad plus loans.clint4law wrote:200K is 200K...it is a sizeable chunk but I have the means to pay it. Problem is due to my income the previous 5 years I'm not eligible for a $0.01 of aid.....I'm meeting with financial aid office to discuss.

You certainly won't get any grants, and probably not Stafford loans. But I'm fairly sure grad plus loans are pretty much automatic.clint4law wrote: Problem is due to my income the previous 5 years I'm not eligible for a $0.01 of aid.....I'm meeting with financial aid office to discuss.

that's what I thought....wouldn't make sense to keep money in money market account accruing 2% interest when at the same time I'd be paying 8.5%BetterCallSaul wrote:yes. 8.5%clint4law wrote:would i be paying interest on the grad plus loans during law school? if so, what interest rate are we talking about?Desert Fox wrote:You certainly won't get any grants, and probably not Stafford loans. If you are doing public interest the government will pay them off after 10 years of public interest employment.clint4law wrote:that's what I thought....wouldn't make sense to keep money in money market account accruing 2% interest when at the same time I'd be paying 8.5%BetterCallSaul wrote:yes. 8.5%clint4law wrote:would i be paying interest on the grad plus loans during law school? if so, what interest rate are we talking about?Desert Fox wrote:

I'd wait out the Michigan waitlist and if that didn't work out, take the Loyola full ride. It's a solid school and if Chicago is where you want to be it makes very good sense to choose Loyola.

Does anyone know how you find out what amount of donation gets you into a school?
I think we might be surprised how far 20K goes towards greasing the wheels.

How far are you away from 170? Because it might be wise to retake in June for two reasons. To get off the Mich WL, and if not, maybe apply to NU AJD again. You'd be Class of 2013 either way. And even if you don't want NU, you might get scholarship money at ND.

My PT Average was 172.....ended up with a 167....psychologically I can't go through it all over again. If I knew for certain I'd get into the AJD I'm game but nothing is certain with the AJD. For now I'm hoping Michigan let's me into their summer program (not as nice...but I'd finish a semester early).Desert Fox wrote:I'm halfway serious.clint4law wrote:lol....I would've donated $50K to get into the AJD program?Desert Fox wrote:Does anyone know how you find out what amount of donation gets you into a school?

I'd agree nothing is certain. But even a 169 would give a MUCH better shot at Michigan. If your average was really 172, it would be a serious mistake to not retake.clint4law wrote:My PT Average was 172.....ended up with a 167....psychologically I can't go through it all over again. And the pressure is off. You've already gotten into a dam good school, Notre Dame.
If I were you, I'd retake. You don't even have to study a lot. Just resharpen your skills.
