Second Semester UG Grades
Will a school ever take away your admissions if your second semester grades suck? My GPA is potentially looking to take a pretty heavy hit (dropping from a 3.2 to a 3.05) from this second semester.

Call the school and ask. I doubt it, unless your failing everything maybe.

The good news is that you didnt get accepted because of your gpa (hopefully). Im in a similar situation and am thankful i am already below the gpa median. Had I gotten in at uva with a 164 3.85 I'd be nervous though.

Does anyone know for sure? Has it ever been done?

As someone else said, there are people who know this answer for sure. They are conveniently available between the hours of nine and five, Monday to Friday in the admissions office of your--hopefully--future university.mavsman88 wrote:Does anyone know for sure? Has it ever been done?

Im trying to avoid that very awkward phone call. Anyone heard of anyone losing their admissions because of second semester grades?

I'm fairly sure that most law schools expect second semester grades to be lower. I mean, undergraduate institutions do. Most of them, however say that, if you really fuck up (you know, you get straight c's, or fail stuff) then they can revoke your admission. But I doubt that if you get an extra B, they are going to throw you out the door.

I think it depends on the major, too. C's aren't bad, they're average...unless you're at a school that massively inflates grades. Pro-tip: do the best you can and don't worry about it. Slack off a little, but don't get any F's. I got a D-for-diploma in one class (it should've been an F, but I guilt-tripped the professor with the "i need to graduate" story), and no one bothered me.snowpeach06 wrote:I'm fairly sure that most law schools expect second semester grades to be lower. I believe it depends on how poorly you did. If you got a 3.0, I don't think it will affect you adversely, should you have a decent reason why.
From what I remember from earlier posts, I believe your GPA doesn't matter anymore in regards to law schools. Once you have submitted a transcript to LSAC, those are the numbers that are subsequently used for rankings, etc.
I believe I read that an admissions personnel from a T14 said (to a student that was on the precipice of the median, and had spring grades that would lower that GPA from median) that as long as the drop wasn't substantial, it would be fine, and to not send an updated transcript to LSAC.
I believe law schools do ask for your final transcript though.

I saved my toughest classes for this semester and looks like I could potentially get C's in 3 of my 4 classes, lowering my cumulative from a 3.22 to a 3.08, well below the bottom percentile for the T20 law school Im going to.

Consider trying to call anonymously. Since it seems probable you are already under the 25th %ile with your current GPA, I don't think that drop would be particularly alarming.
