BC vs. WUSTL

Post by texaspecial88 » Wed Mar 31, 2010 11:59 am

OK. So I haven't been admitted to WUSTL yet and should hear back today (hopefully). That being said, if I do get in I am going to need to make a decision between BC and WUSTL very quickly as I am pretty sure the WUSTL seat deposit is supposed to be post-marked by tomorrow.

Also, I have no preference for location and I am entertaining the idea of pursuing biglaw.

Which would you attend?

Another thing... BC seems to have better biglaw placement, while WUSTL is ranked higher and more prestigious. What do job prospects look like coming from each?

If you were admitted to WUSTL after mid-March (which you would be), the deposit isn't due until April 15. Hope that helps!

Nice, thanks! That probably something I should have checked by now.

Anyone care to explain your reasoning?

The only city WUSTL dominates is STL. Other than that for its major markets, it's the third or so best law school. This means that you can't use your time in LS for networking opportunities if you plan on leaving (which most do) and it means that competition is steep for these other cities. Despite the fact that Boston has BU and Harvard, in both Boston PI/Govt and BigLaw, BC is regarded as quite dominant. Plus Boston >>>> STL. Just my opinion. I got similar money from both and didn't even think twice about my decision not to attend Wash U. I wouldn't have even applied had I not gotten a fee waiver.

I got into Fordham last year and decided not to go because IMO out of all of the TOP law schools (which IMO ends with GW/Fordham/BC/BU), Fordham is the most regional. That being said, of course if a school HAS to be regional, NY is quite the region. I just knew I didn't want to be there. But from my impression, the Fordham name hardly even carries weight around Boston/DC let alone the midwest or the other coast. So basically if you know you want to be in NY, go to Fordham. If you might want to be anywhere else, do not.

I applied to Fordham PT, and would much rather do BC or WUSTL over Fordham PT. Plus I like boston more than NY
