Re: Must be the Year of the Waitlist
Do you maybe think the reason for so many waitlists is people applying to 50 schools like this??? You were accepted to almost the same amount I applied to.xeckosk8trx wrote:Welcome to my world.

this also seemed to be the year of the fee waiver with the economy being the way it is, i wouldn't be shocked if average number of applications per person is way up

Re: Must be the Year of the Waitlist
That is one reason why. These schools are not dumb. They are well aware that students, especially the ones with good numbers, apply to many schools. When a 175/4.0 person applies to Penn State and Depaul, these schools know they are safties. Hence why schools have ED and EA programs.
Fee waivers are the result of schools wanting to increase their stupid USNWR rankings. By inviting tons of people to apply, many of whom are not "qualified", they can increase their applicants, reject them, and then seem much more selective thus rising in the rankings.
Its just ridiculous. I wish USNWR rankings would be abolished. Or at least make them relevant to things that truly matter. Not acceptance rates, surveys and yield rates.

Re: Must be the Year of the Waitlist
I talked to a friend who works admissions and they said that this is one of the more robust cycles they have seen both in terms of quality and quantity of applicants. I can't quote the USNWR ranking directly but I think the school is a mid-level T2.

Re: Must be the Year of the Waitlist
I had a fee waiver to all the schools I applied to. So if its free, why not apply? If you didn't have to pay a fee, you would of done the same thing.

Re: Must be the Year of the Waitlist
The number of increased apps makes it hard to schools to accurately predict how to fill a class. So they are being a bit more cautious.
I have a feeling schools will recruit heavily off their waitlist.
But also some schools are known for having waitlists that are basically soft rejections.

I hope you're right ... (and not talking about the school I'm WLd at in the last part of that statement)Desert Fox wrote:The number of increased apps makes it hard to schools to accurately predict how to fill a class. So they are being a bit more cautious.

Re: Must be the Year of the Waitlist
I ended up with something like 65 fee waivers, each to a different school. I used 6.... Maybe it was the $12.00 that turned me off or the fact I wouldn't go to them so why apply.xeckosk8trx wrote:I had a fee waiver to all the schools I applied to. So if its free, why not apply?
