UT-Austin waitlist support group
Figured I would start this thread up since a batch of W/Ls went out on Friday. I am pleased I am still in the game given my numbers and figured I would make a support group for all other hopeful Longhorns. At this point I am considering retaking the LSAT in June and see if I cant bump my score up a few points. I also spoke to a 1L who says she knows atleast a few people who got off the waitlist year. So there is HOPE

Im on the list, but Im not really expecting much from any of the schools I got accepted to, ultimately if I get in it definitely means no scholarship money...and Im not sure I want to go any where bad enough to pay sticker...though I guess I can cross that bridge should I make it...

Ah geez, seems like you've had an up and down cycle but it seems like you'd have awesome choices regardless of UT. I was expecting the ding from UT so I did not put much thought in attending, however if I got in it would totally change the gameplan. I just don't think any of the choices i have right now would compare to the education I would receive at UT.prolyphek wrote:Im on the list, but Im not really expecting much from any of the schools I got accepted to, ultimately if I get in it definitely means no scholarship money...and Im not sure I want to go any where bad enough to pay sticker...though I guess I can cross that bridge should I make it...

Re: UT-Austin waitlist support group
Yep, wait-listed about a week ago. Very disappointing as it was my first choice. Also, I haven't heard much encouraging news about their wait-list history either. It seems like a long shot. On the In at Texas! thread someone claims to have called the admissions office asking about the wait-list. They told them that some years they don't even use the wait-list, such as last year. Not sure if this is true. I don't mean to crush anyone's dreams but an alternative plan is probably a good idea at this point.
I'm going to wait it out, hoping for a nice surprise, but I consider myself already rejected. I plan to re-take the LSAT in Oct. and re-apply next cycle.

Not necesarily true- in my conversations with a 1l she said she knows atleast a few people admitted off the waitlist- i think someof them were urm but not sure about whether they were in state or oos....Ginger1492 wrote:Yep, wait-listed about a week ago. Well, thats positive news. Keep in mind this is also just hear say, but I also heard that the UT wait-list is difficult to get off of because it involves demographics since they are a public school. For example, if a white female from Texas were to drop out they would try to fill the spot with another white female from Texas. Plus, they surely consider your numbers at that point as well. If this is true, you not only have to have the right number but be in the right demographic.
Can anyone verify or disprove this? If true, it makes the wait-list sound like playing roulette.

Im OOS but I am also mexican and i hear they are trying to get more lations in law school since its still an underserved demographic in the legal field. I would def ride this list into June...I'd have to think that a lot of oos will drop off due to financial reasons etc so it may be worthwhile for me to ride it out. Def sending LOCIs shortly before 1st seat deposits are due / I might even retake the lsat in JuneGinger1492 wrote:Well, thats positive news.
