NYU Scholarship Updates
Figured this could be a place to give status updates on NYU scholarships.
Wondering if anyone who applied for the IILJ scholarship has heard anything.

On the NYU FAAPS website, there is a "My Status" thing. It goes from Application Under Review --> Application in Final Stages of Review, but who knows how long that takes..Billy Blanks wrote:Has anyone offered the Dean's scholarship heard anything else?

Re: NYU Scholarship Updates
I got an email today asking me if I'd like to meet with the director of the center to discuss the Criminal Law Scholars Program, during an admitted student day, so they'll reimburse 200 dollars of my transportation fees. Although the email does not actually make it clear whether this is an interview and whether it will be factored into the scholarship decision.

Re: NYU Scholarship Updates
FWIW, last year merit aid and early need-based aid decisions came out on 25 March. Someone (forget who) called NYU and asked about the decision date this year, and they said mid-to-late March, so it's likely to be the same date or a similar one. This does not include the named scholarships AFAIK.

I just got an email saying I was a finalist for the environmental and land use scholars program. Anyone else hear anything related?

Re: NYU Scholarship Updates
Has anyone received any updates/notifications about the Housing and Urban Policy Scholars Program? With others reporting that they are finalists for some of the other scholars programs, I'm beginning to think I'm out of the running.

Re: NYU Scholarship Updates
Just got mine too, $75,000 Dean's Scholarship. $90 if I decide to do PI.
I was really excited until I noticed this little problem:
--ImageRemoved--
1) It appears the Dean's Scholarship is more of a need/merit kind of thing. The only real problem is that it appears to be the ONLY form of grant aid that NYU offers, or at least the only "form" that it offers to those who get the Dean's Scholarship.
2) Difference/Gap? Is this a mild way of saying that I need to find a bank willing to give $60,000 to someone with no real credit history and no chance of getting a guarantor/cosigner?

GradPlus loans will cover the gap nicely.Sogui wrote:2) Difference/Gap? Is this a mild way of saying that I need to find a bank willing to give $60,000 to someone with no real credit history and no chance of getting a guarantor/cosigner?

The new April 2nd deadline is ridiculous! Chicago's ASW isn't until the following week... How am I supposed to commit before exploring my other options?

PLUS loans are 100% not an option, I couldn't even convince my mom to take a $10k PLUS loan for the year she refused to do FAFSA.

why do you need your mom to take the loan?Sogui wrote:I thought I posted it here, but it was in another thread...Hattori Hanzo wrote:GradPlus loans will cover the gap nicely.Sogui wrote:2) Difference/Gap? GradPlus (which is what Hattori is talking about) has nothing to do with your parents. Sounds like you need to do some research on your financial aid options.Sogui wrote:I thought I posted it here, but it was in another thread...Hattori Hanzo wrote:GradPlus loans will cover the gap nicely.Sogui wrote:2) Difference/Gap? That I do... I explained in the other thread, I always though the P in PLUS stood for parent. Considering that my mom doesn't even have the credit to sign for her own Parent PLUS during Undergrad, I never really looked into Grad PLUS.azlawlady wrote:GradPlus (which is what Hattori is talking about) has nothing to do with your parents. I've been trying to submit my finaid app for the past few weeks - my parents have been kind of dragging their feet. Very aggravating.

Re: NYU Scholarship Updates
It's disappointing, I agree. That combined with the measly scholarship money makes me less inclined to go to NYU rather than more, haha. Anyone know when the Columbia aid decisions will start coming out for those who got their info in by 3/1?summerschooled wrote:The new April 2nd deadline is ridiculous!
