Contacting a school I haven't heard from.
Hey all,
I applied to UConn awhile ago. My app. is complete on their status checker, but I haven't heard anything for awhile. I want to write them an email asking where I stand, but am not sure how to word it. I've heard they're behind in applications from other people on TLS who have contacted them, but want to hear it from them and make sure that my file isn't stuck behind a cabinet. Would something like this work?
Dear X,
I am currently applying to University of Connecticut Law school for the day division of the entering class of 2010. My application went complete on XX/XX. I haven't heard anything from the admissions office and wanted to make sure that my application is in review. In addition, when should I expect to hear a decision from your admissions office? Thank you in advanced.
Sincerely,
hotdoglaw
I'd be interested in hearing how other people have written similar emails.
Thanks all for your input!

To be honest, I wouldn't contact them

UConn just started making decisions 2 weeks ago, so I'm sure a lot of people haven't heard from them, and it's a little early to be concerned. They've been doing this for a long time, and I'm sure your file is not behind a cabinet.kittenmittons wrote:To be honest, I wouldn't contact them

^ I def. wouldn't send them that email.kittenmittons wrote:To be honest, I wouldn't contact them
If you absolutely must receive some kind of confirmation from them I would call the admissions office and say "My application went complete XX/XX and it's been Y number of weeks since I've received any contact. This seems unusually long, is a cycle of Y weeks instead of 4-6 weeks normal for you guys this year?" (They say "oh yes of course it is") "Could you give me any kind of an estimate of when I should expect to hear something back if I went complete on XX/XX?" (They give you a very nice number that is probably Y +1-2 weeks)
I've done this for 3 schools (1 school I was "in review" for 9+ weeks, 1 for 7 weeks, and 1 for 8.5 weeks).
2 of the schools followed exactly what is above, but the other school said "oh yes, that is unusual - let me look up your application for you" (exchange info) "oh it looks like a decision was made and you should be notified of it in Z days!"

Good. You all answered my underlying question: should I be concerned? Thanks

For some reason, this email combined with the name "hotdoglaw" cracked me up. Thank you for this.hotdoglaw wrote:Hey all,

Seriously though, I wouldn't send an email just yet. It's still February and many schools are still sifting through the mass of applicants that applied during/after Christmas. If you do send it, definitely don't "thank them in advanced" unless providing lulz is part of your strategy.
