Re: UChicago waitlist
It will be interesting to see who gets off of the WL in this first batch. I know the last round of regular admits, from LSN, didnt seem to be the people with the highest numbers always. I wonder if the strategy changes when they get to the waitlist. Good luck to everybody still waiting!

Re: UChicago waitlist
i wish they would atleast update the twitter. my guess is that they are still working on first round decisions and getting a head count of those that accepted offers.

Re: UChicago waitlist
I visited when I was in town a few weeks back and was told that their first and foremost objective is to fill the class. By being on the WL we are all competitive, but they aren't necessarily looking to replace someone they lost in the class or adding diversity at this point, which I thought was interesting, since many schools do look to replace individuals that withdraw.
I am hoping we hear something soon... I don't think they have that many decisions left from the first round.

Interesting. Did you feel like they were receptive to your visit? I am considering flying back as a way of demonstrating interest and putting a face to my application but I've heard of schools being negative on this. Did you sit down with Dean Perry or an admission's officer?jsarna1 wrote:I visited when I was in town a few weeks back and was told that their first and foremost objective is to fill the class. Re: UChicago waitlist
Does anyone know the latest Chicago has pulled from the waitlist? Almost all other schools start a full month before they do, so is it possible that a student would have to decide to walk away from first semester tuition at another school? Or do they make all decisions before the end of August.

Re: UChicago waitlist
I met with an admissions officer, and I forget his name, but he was very helpful. I also went on a tour and had all of my questions answered. They said they would get in touch with us once they knew what they were looking at as far as enrollment, so I guess we just have to hold tight.
To answer your other question, it seems that they are done by mid June, at least according to LSN. There is an August admit from a couple years ago, so I guess it is definitely possible if a spot opens up. Good luck!

I'm worried the class is full. The deposit deadline was April 30, we should've seen movement by now.

Re: UChicago waitlist
I'd be a little surprised if they were 100% full just because it seems other top schools are not and had some movement. Plus, I think they'll contact us in some manner regardless. Who knows though... I don't like not hearing anything.

i would worry 1) if chicago had a reputation for timeliness 2) if we weren't still close to the dates people started getting in last yearbeef wellington wrote:I'm worried the class is full. The deposit deadline was April 30, we should've seen movement by now.

Re: UChicago waitlist
Those are great points. I'm pretty sure they will tell us something, and I thought they would let us know if the class was, in fact, full (although you never know I suppose). For some reason I feel like they may be under-enrolled and there will be a lot of movement (eventually), but I'm also a Cubs fan, and thus an eternal optimist...IAFG wrote:i would worry 1) if chicago had a reputation for timeliness 2) if we weren't still close to the dates people started getting in last yearbeef wellington wrote:I'm worried the class is full. Re: UChicago waitlist
From perusing other waitlist threads, it seems like most schools are behind from where they usually are, and as we know, Chicago marches at its own beat. So while I was worried a bit, I'm feeling more optimistic now that there will be movement at some point.
Pure conjecture, but they may be waiting to finish any remaining apps off before moving on to the WL.
(Actually everything is pure conjecture... it would be nice for them to update twitter.)

sounds like they have been looking at xfer apps? dunno if the same people do both sorts of admissions, but if so, they may just not be concerned with us at the moment.jsarna1 wrote:From perusing other waitlist threads, it seems like most schools are behind from where they usually are, and as we know, Chicago marches at its own beat. wow they updated that literally right after I asked for a twitter update. I would assume they'll be getting to us shortly.IAFG wrote:sounds like they have been looking at xfer apps? dunno if the same people do both sorts of admissions, but if so, they may just not be concerned with us at the moment.jsarna1 wrote:From perusing other waitlist threads, it seems like most schools are behind from where they usually are, and as we know, Chicago marches at its own beat. Would you leave Northwestern for Chicago or are you just seeing what happens?

Re: UChicago waitlist
Well, here is the update we've been waiting for. (assuming this was sent to everyone on the waitlist)
just got an email from admissions checking to see if i am still interested. there has been no movement from the waitlist yet, and they do not anticipate any movement in the near future.
the email states that for those who wish to remain on the waitlist, no further action is required. but those who are no longer interested are encouraged to withdraw.
sounds like the class is full, but they are hoping to have a dedicated group of kids to come to the rescue if people drop.
anyone going to send another LOCI/email/update?

Dear XXXXX,
As the summer months approach, we wanted to check in with you regarding your status on the waitlist at the University of Chicago Law School and to provide an update. We have had no initial movement from our waitlist and we do not anticipate any movement in the immediate future. However, the waitlist is very important to the Admissions Committee and it is typical for us to experience some shifting in the incoming class throughout the summer. Accordingly, we would strongly encourage you to remain on the waitlist if you are still interested in attending Chicago in the fall. If you would like to withdraw your name from the waitlist, please send an email to admissions@law.uchicago.edu and we will withdraw your application. If you wish to remain on the waitlist, no further action is necessary at this time. We sincerely appreciate your patience throughout the admissions process.
Thank you,
The University of Chicago Law School Admissions Office

they had significant movement in May last year. i think they sincerely expect to lean less on the WL this year.miamiman wrote:Looks like they're trying to find the real believers.

Re: UChicago waitlist
I see no incentive for releasing anyone for months. Easier to let the group self-select in or out, and then just sit on the pile and pull as needed. I believe that they don't rank the waitlist, so I think it seems unlikely the school would invest the effort in weeding people out now.emanon27 wrote:Oh man, this is a real blow. It looks like a rough year for waitlists. I'm am getting a similar sense from a variety of schools.

I'm in until they tell me it's over. No point in getting demoralized. Just regroup, write another LOCI, and get ready to wait.

i still haven't tried to prove this with LSN, but i suspect due to the economy, schools have been handing out less scholly money, which means fewer students trade money for rankings.jks289 wrote: It looks like a rough year for waitlists. my theory is a lot of multiple seat deposits. haven't worked out the reasoning behind the theory yet, but i just have a hunch that there are quite a few people who are sitting on a seat at chicago as well as a peer school and that we will eventually see movement as they make their final decision.
difficulty here is that im not sure what other pressure points in the summer exist for chicago, where those multiple-depositers will be weeded out. most other schools have second deposit deadlines coming up. im also not sure of the details of chicago's commitment deadline. whether people could for example, pay a deposit at a peer school and then accept chicago's commitment agreement on may 1st. if this is possible, that makes it very convenient since people can reserve a seat at chicago without putting down $$$.
