LOL nice...

Nothing yet over here. Sent in another LOCI and two more letters of recommendation that are far better than the original ones I sent. I do hear about people withdrawing from the waitlist but thats understandable. Cant wait forever. I can wait...but i live here so its easy.

Just got an email that it looks like they sent to a whole grip of other folks (bcc fail) for a 'peer partner' survey.

So strange.

I got it too. Not gonna fill it out. I think the whole premise is stoopid.... "here, you be best friends... and you two, you be best friends..." If it was hookin up a 2/3L mentor, that'd be another story. But, Ill be spending an inordinate amount of time with the rest of the knucklehead 1Ls so I don't need to be told who I should be best friends with... That'll figure itself out.

I get the feeling that it might be a 2L/3L. While the turn of phrase "existing student" made me LOL (I was hoping to get matched up with a non-existing student), it makes me think that they mean 'current student', which would be a 2L+.

Even still, it was like filling out a dating questionnaire, except way more risky. I mean, maybe my "Ideal Friday Night" involves copious amounts of hookers and blow and a surprise party crash by Snoop, but who's going to write that on a law school survey read by the student bar association? C&F problems much? It's like trying to establish a friendship on bland lies.

Either way, I sent it back. While I don't expect it to turn out any BFFs, if I can get hooked up with someone who's getting into the same area of law I want to a year or two ahead of me, it might give me a job contact later on. Low cost, potentially decent reward.

On second reading, I think you're right (RC Fail=me). If it does end up being 1Ls though, you'll probably end up being my buddy (with your love for hookers and blow and all)...

I filled it out and I was honest. My ideal Friday night is hanging out at a bar with friends drinking beer. Then I put after Aug 16th, this won't be a reality. I also read the email to mean they are pairing us with a 2L or 3L, although I can imagine they won't have much time for us 1Ls.

I can think of worse fates. Like being hooked up with Holly, who apparently didn't even have to lie to fill out the questionnaire. Lame-o.

j/k Holly :P

Of course Holly is only reporting what she recalls (up to the point of tequila shots)...

I don't like being the bearer of bad news, and this is totally unofficial, but...

I had to go drop off some stuff for registration today, and Nathan came out to say hello. We made some small talk, and in the course of asking him how things were going he mentioned that they were "not even close to drawing off the waitlist". I didn't inquire too much further, so I don't know if that means that fewer people than expected are withdrawing, or if that means that their process is bogged down somehow. I'm guessing the former, but that's just a guess.

It's not good news, but it's something.

But I ain't one to gossip, so you ain't heard that from me. :p

I sent in the buddy system paperwork as well. It might be lame, but since I don't know anyone in Las Vegas I am grateful for this 8)

This is true Asexual, I was a couple beers in when I filled out that survey. I am on vacation in a cabin in Utah, so bad decisions were bound to be made tequila or not. :) Plus Vegas, think about all the beer my future law school buddy will get to drink at my house.

P.S. Sorry to hear about the waitlist. I think second deposits for other schools are going to start soon, so there may be some hope that people will start withdrawing.

Im going to go with them being bogged down with their history of how they handle the admissions process in the first place. From what ive heard, this is a normal case every year...people literally getting phone calls the day before classes start to ask if they want to come the following Monday. Ive had several friends tell me this was the case in each of their situations...where they had already moved etc.

I've spoken with someone who moved to LV last year, signed a lease, and was set to attend UNLV and got a call three days before classes started that she was in at UofA(rizona). She paid the lease breakage fee and cut down to Tucson. As people drop from the top, I'm sure there will be room to move up the food chain.

I agree that not all is lost. But it certainly comes down to last minute changes more than anything. Not trying to give false hope but also want to make sure that people are aware there is a slight chance "So you're saying there's a chance?!??!"

you are matched up with a 2l or 3l for peer partner. it is a good way to meet a lot of law students quickly (before school even starts), get free outlines/books, and just get a lot of advice and your questions answered.

Yeah, I guess the situation is grim for us waitlisted folks....how many people do you think they will end up taking off the waitlist before school starts?

Talia, if you really want UNLV, why not wait another year and retake the LSAT? It would also give you a year with the firm that just hired you.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
