I would like to add that this is not mandatory reading list, just suggested. The dean said in his email that the best thing to do for the summer is to just relax and then gave us this list if we wanted something to do.

Outstanding! Picked up six books to start today. Luckily (well actually unfortunately) I am unemployed so time is all I have. Might as well make the best use of it right?

I think ill start with Legally Blonde and follow it up with Two Weeks Notice to get on the right track  :)

I posted this on another thread and thought it might be useful here:

The 2009 job placement stats are on the UNLV website. They have been added to the 2006-2008 ones under career services if anyone is interested.

I picked up One-L (read it and definitely word the read), The Defense Never Rests (also an excellent read), starting out on Introduction to Legal Reasoning tonight. I also grabbed Storming the Court, Indefensible, Gideons Trumpet, How Judges Think (not on the list but by Posner), and The King of Torts. Because im not admitted to the law school yet, Im unable to check out most of the books that I would like to read so...im enlisting the aid of half.com to find the rest. Ive checked with the public library as well. The only other source that I havent touched is the law library downtown but im not in a rush to get down there...

You definitely have your work cut-out for you... Let me know your thoughts on Posner's How Judges Think. I thought about checking that out, but I bought a Posner book months ago called Overcoming the Law, and I feel like it requires a little more knowledge of legal philosophies than I am currently in possession of... Interested to hear if How Judges Think would be as helpful as it sounds or if it would be over my head as well...

Im concerned this one may be the same way. My boyfriend told me its a good read...but he is a Sr. Deputy Attorney General...so his understanding of it will be well beyond mine.

On a side note...im bringing UNLV my second LOCI today...

Has anybody heard anything about movement from the wait list? Do they make decisions in clumps? I continue to cross my fingers!!!

Has anyone been brave enough to call/email them about waitlist status? I am thinking of contacting them but worry that we all may be doing that and annoying them..

Aside from submitting my LOCI a while ago, I have emailed Liz Karl, but did not recive any kind of response from her, which I thought was kind of odd because she has always been so quick and friendly in the past.

maybe they are all on vacation.

Possibly.. tis the season for that I suppose. Oh well.. more worrying and waiting ahead!

Also, one book recommendation I got from a friend graduating this year is Ivy Briefs: http://www.amazon.com/Ivy-Briefs-Tales- ... 605&sr=8-1 if anyone is looking for even more to read!

Is it a turn-off to call Nathan Neely directly to ask if my loci and second letter of rec have arrived....and then ask how the waitlist is moving along? I dont want to be too pushy, but I want to express my interest. I sent in my second loci and my extra letter of rec three weeks ago.

I'm no expert, but I don't think Nathan would be put off by that. He's always seemed willing (eager, even) to answer questions and help out in any way he can.

I called last Friday and asked E. Karl about the waitlist status and if there was any movement at all. She said "ehhhhh.... there has been some movement". Which sounded like: yes, but not much.

I'm withdrawing today.

I bought the first and second season of The Paper Chase (TV series) and the movie The Paper Chase. I watched them all and I doubt I'll watch them again. They are on sale on Amazon for about $70 for all three. I'll sell my copies for $40 if anyone is interested...

I spoke to Neely the other day, and he said that any waitlist activity would probably occur after the 2nd, or upcoming, deposit deadline in early July. Exact date wasn't set for it apparently. Also, 250 people on the waitlist.

Anyone read Friedman's History of American Law?

She and her mother both read it and felt it accurately portrayed their experiences as student and parent of student. I admit I just got it and haven't read it yet so can't really share what is in there with any expertise.

Got in at Penn State, so I'll be withdrawing from the waitlist. Good luck to those still waiting!

Anybody hear anything...? (don't really care, just sick of seeing "Penn State" from the last poster)...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
