I really wish I knew if I was receiving $$ from UNLV. I got the email yesterday and a phone call about ASD, but it would be nice to have the actual packet. lol.
Maybe I could just call back and ask?

Lets get that gunning started early. Nothing says 'TLS pedigree' like striking fear into future classmates hearts before the first day of class. Give them a few months to stew on it.

I'm actually really excited about ASD. It's my first one and I'm hoping it'll give me some good perspective going into all the others. Plus, I could definitely see myself ending up there.

Re: UNLV 2010 waiting room.....
Does anybody know if there's something going on in Vegas in this weekend? I looked into hotel rooms this week, and they were a lot more expensive then I thought they'd be, and some were even booked. Isn't Vegas suffering more than the rest of us from this recession? They ought to be giving rooms away. Anybody know of a cheap place, preferably near the strip, to stay this weekend? I still might be able to make it, but don't want to spend $300 on a hotel room for two nights.

I found a room at the MGM for just over $100, I think it was $122 total. Although it was just for friday and I found the deal through Facebook.tstack22 wrote:Does anybody know if there's something going on in Vegas in this weekend? I get a $35 activity credit, which I hope I can use on booze or food. Although, with my luck will only go towards shows.

Can I just send you guys a cardboard cut-out of me to prop in a chair? Unfortunately I will not be able to go
Plane flights are too much, and it would take me 1 day + 4 hours to get there if I don't stop at all. I don't think I've got that many vacation days. Would you guys mind asking them some questions for me though? That would be super awesome of you!!!

terrible's sounds like a dump but it isnt, it is a real, legitimate vegas hotel. check it out. 80 for fri night. If you can walk a while, it is worth the cheaper room. about the same distance as some of the strip hotels. just across the street from campus but on the far side

The NASCAR race is this weekend. Brings 100K+ into town, probably the reason for the high rates.

I'll be at the MGM as well. See Ka on Friday night, you won't regret it.BruinsFan wrote:I found a room at the MGM for just over $100, I think it was $122 total. Re: UNLV 2010 waiting room.....
That explains it. I had thought about Terrible's; walked over there one night when I was staying at the Hard Rock. Walking's not a problem for me. Maybe I'll just try my luck on Hotwire. Some rooms in the area, 3+ stars, for under $70. If my boss let's me leave town this weekend without taking vacation days, I think I will be there.yo! wrote:The NASCAR race is this weekend. 1. How is the job market for customer service and service industry jobs? My SO and I are wondering how difficult it will be for him to find a job there.
2. How is the general outlook for the future viability of Nevada?
3. Are there any summer reading requirements, or will we get those later?
4. How many people keep their scholarships after 1L?
5. Which clinics and programs are likely to be cut?
6. Is the immigration clinic safe for the foreseeable future?
I'm sure I might have more... just can't think of them right now.

Re: UNLV 2010 waiting room.....
I doubt there will be any straight answer for the bolded questions. My guess is that those answers will just be school talking points (we have a great school, great faculty blah blah blah). I can't ask all of them because I don't want the super-gunner status before classes even start, but maybe we can all try to help out the people that weren't able to attend. I'll ask one or two of them at least.....roguey wrote:Thank you!!!! Re: UNLV 2010 waiting room.....
I suspect 5 and 6 will get the answer that everything is fine. The law school is financially sound, and most of it isn't paid for with state money. I was in a club meeting with some of my philosophy professors last night, and they said that when the 'mandatory 8% cuts in each department order came down, the law school could only lay off administrative and service workers.' It was a bad day to be, say, a librarian, but since professors and whatnot don't get paid out of state funds, they were fine.yo! wrote:I doubt there will be any straight answer for the bolded questions. I don't expect the financial troubles of the university, or the state at large, to really affect the law school based upon all the information I've been hearing. That should extend to the clinics and such as well.
