What are people's thoughts about physically stopping by the admissions office? Held 3/29.

Only helpful if you can make JR an offer he can't refuse.

(1st time poster) figured I would join the waiting game. I was Held in Feb., and based on the profiles of the folks here, I have no idea why I didn't just get rejected outright. Is it possible that, due to an increased volume, the "held" distinction simply refers to an administrative backlog?

Nope, some people are held while other rejected. Also you were held in Feb, the backlog should be cleared by now. :)

I'd go with you. Held 3/23, also in the Boston area. But I don't think it would help.

Held today. Total shock. Harvard is my first choice but is a huge reach for me. Sub 3.5 GPA, above 175 LSAT, no JR1.
I have been offered a 3 year full scholarship from a school that is below #75 in the rankings but strong in the type of law I am interested in. I need to give them my decision by April 15. I can't imagine I have a real shot at getting accepted but the hold email rekindled hope. Still, I am afraid to risk a full scholarship for a pipe dream. I have had a significant promotion since applying to H, and can get a pretty strong letter of recommendation. How do I handle this situation?

If the scholarship only requires a deposit pay it and wait on Harvard, if it requires withdrawing from all other offers ask for an extension. Be nice of course either way.

Sent an update if you have one - a significant promotion may be one all depends- and send the letter of recommendation. I would suggest getting a tailored LOR if you can. Not like you are applying anywhere else right now anyhow.

BTW, I am held too and I did what I thought was best and it hasn't helped so do whatever you think is best.

Thanks for the advice Unitas. Since getting the news I haven't known how to start wrapping my mind around it. The scholarship does not require a deposit (as I never have to pay any tuition at all), but just a signature on a form accepting the scholarship. It does not specifically say it is binding, just that the form indicates my commitment to enroll.

Come on bro-han, a commitment to enroll is a commitment to not enroll elsewhere. Speak to them as soon as you can so you don't seem like a jerk, and don't be a jerk. I'm not sure whether the best route is just to tell them that you have other decisions pending (you could say other scholarship decisions pending?), or make up something about your grandma. They would probably understand if you told them you think you have a shot at H - advice re this anyone?

Does it direct you to withdraw from all other law schools? I have a scholly offer that says I must withdraw from all other schools to which I have been admitted (meaning I could still ride WLs). It depends on the exact wording.

thankfully this nonsense will come to an end in a couple of weeks. then we can all interpreting the mysteries of the waitlist.
also, has anyone noticed that the numbers of the people getting held are starting to become a lot more "all over the place." it used to be that they followed a pretty standard pattern: for non-URMs 175+/3.75-3.5 or 168-171/3.85+.

Question- How are people generally getting 'held'- via email AND status checker or sometimes by status checker only? I ask because whilst I got a complete email from Harvard at the start of March, I didn't get a username/password email for the status checker and it's been radio silence since. Don't really feel like bugging the Admissions Office unless it would be crucial to have access to the Status Checker to get any kind of decision...

you get held by email. status checker doesn't even say that i'm held; all that happened was the UR date changed.

Ah, thank you! I won't ask for the status check info then and just sweat it out in the dark. I already compulsively check 3 others.... :(

+1, I wish I had the willpower to not wait on Harvard & choose a school where I have actually gotten an acceptance. Congrats on the end of your cycle Kronk!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
