Ok, I know this is going to sound really ignorant, but here goes: Pepperdine somehow escaped my radar when I applied to law school. I'm interested in Entertainment Law and would ideally go to school in LA/NY. So...this is obviously an unfortunate omission.

I'm considering calling the school to see if I can still apply, but what would I say? "Gee, I'm an idiot, and didn't know you existed"? Lame.

I got in with a $15,000 Dean's Scholarship, but I'm still unsure as to whether I can justify spending that much $$. The scholarship is only renewable if I'm in the top third of the class and I also have about $30,000 in loans from undergrad, so I just don't know! I got into the University of Houston, too, and that would be a lot cheaper, but that pretty much means I'd have to stay in Houston to get a job. Houston's deposit is due on the 14th and it's binding. I haven't heard back from most of the schools I applied to, so I'm thinking about calling Pepperdine and seeing if they can grant me an extension on the deadline or give me more $$. Has anyone tried any of these strategies?

This is not likely to be the advice you want to hear. This late in the game, admission at Pepperdine is not likely even with excellent numbers. Further, even with an admission, the chances of getting a scholarship are almost nothing.

If Pepperdine is really where you would like to go, you can always work for a year. Build up your resume, get some life experience, and work to improve your LSAT (if needed). Apply early next year. Improve your chances of admission and financial aid.

I imagine that you will have more success in getting an extension than in getting more money. I have heard of people being successful with the first request. It couldn't hurt to give the university a call.

Do you know anyone who has asked for more money and been successful?

lol

To be honest, no I don't. Then again, I don't know of anyone specifically who asked and was denied. I don't remember anyone on the board reporting back after making such a request.

Well, I was just wondering about the money they offered people who turned down their acceptances. Does anyone know if they're is any chance of an increase in scholarship money?

While like utilitarianjac I don't know anyone specifically who asked for more money, earlier in this thread(?) or another one, someone said they talked to admissions who told them they would consider negotiating financial aid money after May 1st. I don't know if that can be confirmed. Sounds like it would be after a lot of deposit deadlines too. But it does seem to indicate that the school is willing to play ball and negotiate with you.

Good point. I guess they could have just as easily said that they don't negotiate scholarships. But then again, maybe they don't negotiate and just want some more deposit money

They've said they'll have final decisions on scholarship negotiations after May 1st, but that the chances for more money are slim. My guess is that they are waiting to use money originally offered to people who didn't submit a deposit.

I didn't see anything on Pepperdine's site to indicate that the deposit was exclusive and the letter in the admissions packet notes that you can get half your deposit back by submitting a withdrawal letter before the second deposit deadline. I don't think it would be reasonable for them to claim exclusivity.

Anyone looking for a roommate? I'll be a 1L in the fall, but I'm currently finishing up undergrad at Pepperdine. The apartments I'm in now are very nice, 10-15 min. from campus, and about $750 each for your own bedroom and a shared bath. Most of my graduating friends are moving home or looking for jobs, so I'm hoping to meet another 1L so that we'd have the same type of schedule/workload...

Decision Rendered 4/13/2010

Wow I am a nervous wreck.

Is this a bad sign? Does it just say accepted when you are accepted or does everyone get this?

Anyone else go DR ?

I live in LA how long ya think the letter will take to get here? Friday?

Wow 5 minutes ago I was falling asleep at work now after seeing my statues checker change to DR I look like I have withdrawal symptoms.

Good luck to everyone who got a DR today!

I'll be withdrawing with $75k on the table. Hope that helps. Also, in case you folks didn't notice, Pepperdine jumped from 55 to 52 in the rankings. Go Waves.

you should probably start by obtaining a plastic bag, lining the inside with paint, and taking deep inhalations from said bag.

good luck though, if you do not receive any invited to wavenet, or some such shit, you either were rejected or WLed. That will arrive via regular mail. Took about 5 business days, IIRC, to go from DR to receiving my WL in the mail.

EDIT: Stats? PM if dont wanna share?

Wavenet?

I think I signed up for that a while back but it was open to all prospective students and I checked everything on wavenet and it had nothing about statues or anything of the sort.

Does the invitation to join wavenet come by e-mail? If so, I have not recieved anything yet.

Im sorry. I just reread my post and it is so confusing even I had trouble understanding it. If you are accepted, you will receive an email with an invitation to join wavenet. This comes somewhere btwn 1-3 days after you're status checker changes to DR. At least this seems to be the experience of those accepted here on TLS. If you are not accepted you will receive either your Ding or WL via regular mail.

I checked LSN three people got DR on 4/12 they were all rejected. Snizz I think I am heading towards rejection. No wavenet invite either (but its only been 1/2 a day got the DR sometime around 3 pm pacific time). I went complete early Feb. This will be a real downer if I get rejected I really want to go to this school.
