Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
I think a big part of this jump is due to the affordability of Phoenix, as well as a desire to be in a 'major' market as opposed to an ancillary one like Tucson. Plus, there is just so much to do in Phoenix these days. The boom times served us well, go light rail!

all this talk about asu's law dean gunning at the USNWR is pretty cool.
but all i really want is mens bball back in the tourney next year. i live down the street from asu and was thinking about getting season tickets if they let me study law there next year.

Hey MEPG, I thought I remember you mentioning that the admissions office is still in this week despite Spring Break. Do you know if that means they will still be sending decisions out? It always seems like admits receive their news on Thursday...

Now that I think about it, a jump in the rankings wouldn't surprise me. With increased numbers to accompany that low student/faculty ratio, it makes sense that ASU gains a little respect...Padimud wrote:Any guesses on where ASU will rank for next year in comparison to UA. I heard their median LSAT is up 2 points. That ought to help.
When I visited UofA, the admissions office informed me that their new Dean was really focusing on numbers this year to try and improve their ranking as well. I think ASU and UofA should go gunning for Ohio State. I'm talking full scale State-to-State combat... Open warfare in the streets...

I don't know if they will be sending decisions out. I can't see why they wouldn't since they have been sending out pretty consistent batches, but I am completely guessing.AsexualChocolate wrote:Hey MEPG, I thought I remember you mentioning that the admissions office is still in this week despite Spring Break. I would guess that they are still working and sending out decisions this week for two reasons:AsexualChocolate wrote:Hey MEPG, I thought I remember you mentioning that the admissions office is still in this week despite Spring Break. 1. I'm graduating from ASU as an undegrad this spring and "just in case" I re-applied last week to go for a second degree. My application went to received status this past Monday and accepted/admitted on Tuesday, so if the folks in admission for the undergrad part of ASU are still working it's a fair bet the law school is still kicking as well.
and
2. ASU is so far behind the ball in sending out their decisions compared to other schools, they have to know they can't afford to sit on their duffs for a week.

They worked all week. I spoke with the dean of admissions on Tuesday evening and she let me know that things are slammed there, and that they were working hard to fill their class.AngelAuthor wrote:I would guess that they are still working and sending out decisions this week for two reasons:AsexualChocolate wrote:Hey MEPG, I thought I remember you mentioning that the admissions office is still in this week despite Spring Break. Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
has anyone ever been told that they will receive a phone call from the dean of admissions?
i dont think its a good or bad thing. i assume i made a mistake on my application or they want to clarify something on my transcript.
but any advice or info would be appreciated because i feel like throwing up.
i feel like its high school and im in love with asu but they barely know i exist. now they have asked me to meet them outside the lockers by the gym but they probably just want to ask me if its true that my football teammate actually likes them.
ITS ALWAYS LIKE THIS lol

Don't know what to expect, but if they set up a phone interview I doubt it is bad news. Shelli Soto (the Dean of Admissions) is an awesome lady. I have spoke with her a few times over the course of the last month. She is a straight up type of person. . . so don't fret just be honest and candid about your desires and I am sure ASU will love you back.aIvin adams wrote:has anyone ever been told that they will receive a phone call from the dean of admissions?

When I was getting recruited for soccer, the recruiter from the school I most wanted to attend showed up at one of our games. He came up to me after and I got all excited. Turned out he just wanted to ask if I knew where this other kid, Scott, was. I was crushed.aIvin adams wrote:has anyone ever been told that they will receive a phone call from the dean of admissions?

Not law school related at all, but it fits your story a bit. Hope you have better luck than I did!

bhahaha. awesome. BTW does anyone have any info on AZ's residency requirements? I'm getting married to an AZ resident before I start law school and I was wondering if that would qualify me for in state tuition.

I don't know! I am more confused than ever. I thought I had made up my mind on U of A, but then I visited ASU, and the visit was amazing! I am going to go to the ASD for U of A next week. But it's a tough call. I LOVE Phoenix! Seriously my favorite city! I love baseball, and especially during spring training season, I am reminded how amazing this place is. And the ASU facilities were great. I could totally picture myself there. Of all the schools I have visited thus far, ASU felt the best. So... I don't know what to do!aIvin adams wrote:THANKY ya!!! are you still considering asu or are you headed to tucson? either one is such a great option-- i just love phoenix too mcuh to leave so i never considered arizona.:msbeautifulbasham wrote: Yay!!!!!!!!! Anyone else completely torn between ASU and U of A?

At the risk of ruining the vibe on this thread by being a complete jerk, it took me literally 9 seconds to find it on their website. That is decidedly less time than it takes to post a message asking the question.Burgstaller04 wrote:BTW does anyone have any info on AZ's residency requirements? Short answer: if she meets the Regents' requirements for in-state tuition, then you do, too.

I could be if ASU would get back with me and let me know if I'm in or not . I was deferred to regular admission from EA. I'm headed to AZ this weekend to check out Phoenix and Tucson. Going to the preview day at U of A on Monday and will probably schedule a tour of ASU Tuesday (unless I hear I'm out between now and then).msbeautifulbasham wrote:

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
After visiting the two schools a few weeks ago I withdrew from Arizona. Phoenix just had so much more appeal to me, and the ranking difference is nominal when you consider they are both regional schools fighting for roughly the same positions. Given U of A has slightly better reach, but not enough to make me want to move to Tucson.
I am down to two schools, ASU being one of them. After a trip this weekend to my other school I hope to be making a commitment sometime next week one way or the other.
ASU is a safety school but it has turned into one where I feel it might give me just as much opportunity without all the debt of my reach schools. And in this economy, that matters.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
wow. I feel really stupid. I read the regents website, and U of A's site and both of them still left me confused. I never checked ASU's site b/c I thought it'd be more of the same but that was pretty blunt and tells me exactly what I need to know. Thanks for taking the extra step for me!A Funny Name wrote:At the risk of ruining the vibe on this thread by being a complete jerk, it took me literally 9 seconds to find it on their website. I was hoping for today, too, but nothing.
I'm getting worried! ASU has become my top choice, since I LOVE living in Tempe (been here since July, currently teaching high school). Don't make me move back east, ASU! It's COLD there!
I've now pretty much resigned myself to the idea that everyone left is probably going to WL or deny me...didn't think so from ASU, but I guess my scores put me at about average for them...

Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know the goal for admissions is to have the decisions out by April 15th. Don't shoot the messenger if it doesn't work out that way!
